Would you save much money getting a car/jeep fixed in the North of Ireland coming from the Kildare?

In a recent trip to the North of Ireland I realised alot of services are far cheaper up there, hence the question.

I have a jeep and the engine needs to be conditioned on it because it is losing power and the there was also a bad grinding noise in the front left hand wheel that disabled the four wheel drive. Brought it to high precision in Tullow and it is going to cost over a thousand to repair. What kind of saving would I make on this if any?

Only had my car a year and only lived in the republic for a bit more than that so not too much experience. But had a few things done here in Dublin and some in Derry. Labour costs are considerably lower in the North, perhaps its the rent in Dublin for the pit or whatever but definitely noticeable (so might be cheaper outside of Dublin).

You can check out parts yourself on the net, but VAT is lower now for example. In general most stuff i.e. parts seems to cost more or less the same, so dunno if it would really be worth it. Phone for a quote maybe to find out? Post the results if you do.

Ring a few garages and check? I can't imagine that between the exchange rate, cost of driving up and back plus risk if the repair they do up there becomes dodgey and you end seriously out of pocket due to needing to bring it back to that garage to get it fixed again.

Having said that, I could be wrong. Just seems that if there is a reliable place nearby that will service a Jeep with a guarantee on it, I can't see why you'd go north.

The only thing I can add is that High Precision in Tullow are an excellent outfit and if they are near to you then it makes sense to use them. Hard to get after sales service from somebody 100 miles away.

So you don't need an engine re-condition then?

Full service on the Mazda 6 MPS 529 euro in Mayo, 320 euro in Coalisland. Car got a mini valet and full wash before it was returned, all in the price.

He didn't state any other parts where 'broke'

Most services will be cheaper in the north due to parts prices being lower and differences in VAT etc but you really need to know exactly what work you need doing.

It will be very difficult to get price comparisons for 'some pipe' and 'a bad grinding noise' that makes the 4wd not work.

Its not a €1000 he got that bit wrong 2 ,maybe somewhere around €1500 have not payed them yet.
I think High Precision are very good at diagnostic and know there stuff . 2 years ago the jeep kept stopping and we brought the jeep to 3 different mechanics as they call themselves, not 1 of them could fix it and had 2 pay them €200 each for there time. After all that we brought the jeep 2 High Precision and they told us it was an injector that was gone , no bull sh1t storys either.
