Suzuki Swift...unisex car?

Had an interesting debate with a couple of colleagues today about the Swift. One says it's definitely a girly car and the other thinks it's unisex. Personally I find the black Swift an appealing super mini and would happily drive it being a male.

What's the general opinion on this car?

Had one for 4 years and no-one ever said to me it is a girl's car. Get the right colour and it can be unisex. Mine was gun metal grey metallic and looked the business. Sold it to my brother in law earlier this year and he loves it.

Seems to get glowing reports when I read up on it, strong engine apparently and a smooth ride. Looking at the prices for the new ones, very competitive, considering I'd choose it over most of it's rivals. Like the look of the Alfa Romeo Mito but that's more expensive and looking at the bhp, the 1.2 Swift has 94bhp and the Alfa 1.4 has 78bhp:confused:

Plus the Alfa is about 2 grand more.

Buy the alfa very slightly used.

I think the Mito is a nice looking car, strange though that it's a 1.4 but has the same top speed of the Swift 1.2.

As with a Mini, it depends very much on the colour IMO.

I hate the swifts with white roofs and bonnet stripes, they are a good car in their own right and don't need to try to copy Mini.

As someone said to me earlier, people who buy Swifts do so because they can't afford a Mini.

I have one, other half loves driving it but wouldn't own one. But he used to own a golf years ago and wanted a colt at one point too.

I have it ages and wouldnt swap it for the world.

God no I hated the mini. But price was a factor. It was a toss up between a golf, a jazz or the swift. After driving them, swift won hands down.

Are Carzone actually correct with their prices on this? It says the new 1.2 GL starting price is €13,650, but when I had a look at dealers, it's a lot more than this.

    Then, the same car....€15,850

Every time I look at one I see them as a potential track day project.
No idea how that'd work in practice but it must say something for it being somewhat of a unisex car.

I had one of these for a few weeks as a rental..

I was actually pretty impressed for what it was.. comfy enough, well specced
(import so electrics all round, climate control, decent stereo etc) and drove pretty well.
Thought the color was a bit different too :)

(Was still great to get my own car back though.. :p)

Rubbish, what sort of argument is that! You can rule out almost every diesel, almost every non sports version of every car ever made.
"you got a mini? What's the matter? Couldn't afford the cooper s?"

Buy the car you like the most and sod what others think. Too many insecure people worried what everyone else around might think.

    All cars are unisex.

    All cars are unisex.

I'd mostly agree. But no self respecting man should ever drive a Micra... :p

Yup, it's about 2 months since we had a thread like this, it was 2 months before that we had another one. So in about 2 months, we'll have yet another yawnworthy 'is this a girls car' thread.

I agree, but because they're crap, not because they are a girl's car. Women shouldn't buy them, either.
