It's been assigned to a staff member to work and depending on what it is and the workload of the office you sent it to, it may take 1 to 8 weeks. Was it something that you could not claim online?

got a letter from them about a month ago claiming i owed them over 6000 euros when i rang and questioned it the guy said that because i had a joint mortgage with my childs mother back in 2008 they assumed that we had been living together since then when i explained that we bought the house as a home for her and my daughter and that i remained living at home until late 2010 he informed me that i would have to reapply for my single parent tax credit and supply them with documentary evidence of my address for the relevant years which i did just got the feeling that they were trying to rip me off

Ah I see. Hard not to take it personal, but Revenue have been investigating all cases of the One Parent Family credit over the last year, so you are not alone. So long as your evidence backs up your case you should be fine. It still may take a few weeks though.
