Hi, going to Berlin with a group of 8 and rather than staying in a hotel, we're going to do self-catering esp. as there seems to be hundreds if not thousands of apts. to choose from !

Question is, in order to see the sights, but also to be in a lively area for night-time dining / a few beers, what areas would forum members recommend ? We're all between 30 and 50 so we're not exactly clubbing material but we want to stay somewhere that's got a bit to offer in the neighbourhood etc.

We (party of five), ranging in ages from 30 to 60, stayed in aparthotel "Vega" couple of years ago. It's on side-street off Kurfurstendamm.

Apartment had two single beds in living room, single bed room and double and single in other bedroom. Backed onto rail-line so wee bit noisy (but a few beers should take care of that!)

It's handy for Savignyplatz station (5/10 min walk). Europa centre (and the Irish Bar) is 15 min walk away. Savignyplatz has plenty of reasonably-priced restaurants.

Berlin is a very easy city to travel around. Love the place (this is first time since 2006 we haven't gone:().
