Advice needed for skin condition

Hi, my OH has had a rash/very dry skin in and around his belly button for about 18 months now. He has been to the GP several times and has been prescribed different creams and tablets. So far none have gotten rid of it totally. It's gotten better for a while but then come back as soon as the course of treatment is over.

We want a referral to a dermatologist, and I know we should visit the GP again to get this, but does anyone know how much the referral costs? Or how much we have to pay for the appointment with the dermatologist once we have the referral? We would want to stay public, so I know there could be a wait, but just not sure about the costs. We don't have any medical cards, if thats a factor.

    Thanks.

It could be diet too. I'd get an allergy test done in case. Sorry, wouldn't know where to refer you. Could the GP not give you some help?

If you visit the GP again it is likely you will be charged the standard rate or possibly discounted and he will just recommend a dermatologist he knows. With some doctors you could chance your arm and just ring them and ask for the referral, dunno if you even have to go to the GP to collect anything.

As you have been to see them they might be more willing to do this for free.
