    Hi there,
Has anyone driven Bristol (leaving from near enough airport) to Pembroke docks?
AA is saying 2hrs 47mins but a general google seems to suggest less.
Wondering how early would need to leave Bristol to get the 14.45 ferry,

The other option is the 21.30 out of hollyhead but that seems a 4hr 47mins drive(from aa) on roads that people reckon can get congested, so could take way longer

If we miss the 14.45 out of pembroke the next isnt until 02.45 for the overnight sailing - hope not to have to do that one

Where are you heading to this side, because if it is Dublin, it would be quicker to drive to Holyhead.

Anyway, I would say Pembrole is about an hour and a half from the bridge, two at the most.

    Thanks for that.
Heading to Laois - so bout 2 hours this side either way,

Have read that the m5/m6 up to holyhead can be brutal with regular delays around birmingham so was wondering what people had done it would suggest.

So at 2 hrs max from the bridge aa sounds accurate at 2hrs 47?

It takes me about 3 1/2 hours from M4 junc 8 and the toll bridge is about 90 minutes away.

If I do 80 to 90 mph and not stop, I could shave 30 minutes off that. Be careful around Swansea though, there are speed cameras.

    Thanks for that Fred,
just so I understand the bridge is 90mins from where you join the m4? So then Pembroke is 2hours from the Severn?
(sorry if that should be obvious, dont know the area at all - first time using a ferry. Presume you just drive up and que in the car)

That's more or less it. It takes me 3 1/2 hours from Maidenhead and the severn bridge is about 100 miles into a 220 mile journey. I normally get the 2am ferry though. I usually allow 4 hours and aim to get there an hour before the ferry leaves.

At Pembroke you follow the signs for the Ferry and it takes you to a sort of car park, where you park in a lane until called forward to check in. From then on, someone is telling you where to go, where to park etc.

There is a decent service station at the end of the M4 and a cafe in the port. Pembroke also has the usual Tesco etc so there is plenty of opportunity to kill an hour or so if need be. One potential hazard is that the road to Pembroke is single carriageway so there is always the potential to get stuck behind a tractor/caravan/old person.
