Radiator vent thingy stuck

My bathroom radiator needs to be vented, but the little square vent thingy is stuck solid. I have a few vent keys, and I've managed to break two of them trying.

Before anyone asks, I am trying to turn the thing the right way - honest.

Anyone got any ideas on why it would be stuck or how to shift the thing?

I had probs with one vent pin on an old rad, no key would shift it and the corners were rounding on the pin. I got the best size 1/4" socket which would fit onto it - I more or less beat it on, and with a ratchet spanner I can open and close the vent no bother, the leverage you have is the winner. The socket stays there permanently or just when you have it opened, fit a new pin.
