Cannot uninstall McAfee Internet Security Suite?

I am having problems trying to uninstall McAfee Internet Security Suite.

One day old netbook, Windows 7 starter, and has hardly been used.

Start > Control Panel > Category View > Uninstall a program:

I can find the software and click uninstall but instead of some front-end to remove it appearing, a small whited-out window appears so there's something wrong.

I have tried it a few times and restarted - is there a safe way to cleanly remove this crap?

    Hmm, thats odd indeed...

Try and see if there's an uninstaller .exe in the Mcafee directory (probably done that already). If not I'd say try a third party uninstall app such as revo.

If all else fails personally i would wipe and reinstall a fresh windows.

McAfee Removal Tool will do it ;):) .
formatting windows just to remove McAfee? Not needed at all :) Sure restoring the OEM OS will likely restore the crap aswell!

Start PC in Safe Mode (keep pressing F8 when PC starts) and try to uninstall from there. You might need to uninstall the McAfee Agent as well - look in C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\FrmInst.exe" /remove=agent.

As previous poster stated try downloading and installing Revo uninstaller (google for it).

If that fails try getting help from McAfee: http://service.mcafee.com/default.aspx

This works (posted when I was posting)

On the first run of the Acer Aspire One Happy 2 there was a popup option to sign up up for some McAfee service or ask later - no cancel or no option.
