There is the Military College in the Curragh. Don't know how similar it is but it runs a lot of different courses including the Cadets. There is also the Combat Support College and the Combat Service Support College.

I thought Harrogate was the Army Foundation College if that's the case no The Defence Forces has nothing like that you need to be 18 or 17 with parents permission to enlist.

In short no, the Irish Defence Forces have no "boy soldier" programme. Minimum entry into the DF is at 17.

    Thanks,
Is it a good idea to go to Harrogate after the Junior cert, or should you have a leaving cert?
    Thanks.

Finish school, then worry about the military.

Focus on your school work. In your spare time focus on your fitness.

    YoungSoldier,

AFC Harrogate is the junior entry option into the British Army for school leavers after their respective GCSE's or college courses and you have to be between 15.7 months and 17.5 months old.
After that you have to go adult entry, AFC Harrogate (to best of my knowledge) is open to Inf, RAC, RA, and one other corp I think.

Selection process is the same for junior entry to adult entry, albeit with some lower demands from the prospective junior soldier, eg. - as in for Para's its 10.00mins instead of 9:40mins. Intakes for the college are September and January, and the selection process can take about 5/6 months+, so its advisable to start early.

I myself had personally planned to join, but due to family "demands" waasnt able to, currently preparing for to start process of adult entry in 5 months...
