1-year warranty vs. independent check

    Hi,

I just put down a refundable deposit on a car. The deal includes a 1-year warranty, and the car was test-driven by myself and another person. Is it worth forking out €200 to get it inspected by Motorcheck?

Would an inspection pick up anything that could fail 12 months later?

    O.

A motorcheck is not 200 euro.

The vendor as a dealer must already have done a check before buying the car. Get him to email you his copy.

The OP is talking about the additional service from motorcheck where they send an Engineer to inspect the car.
Its certainly worth doing if you know little about cars or indeed if the car is of significant value. First thing to do is a motorcheck history check surely for €30 or so.

Is this a dealer warranty or the remaining year of the manufacturer's warranty?
Unless the car is high value, a dealer warranty on an oldish used car often only covers the major components, i.e. the engine and gearbox.

Clutches and brakes are considered wear items and are unlikely to be covered. Other 'minor' items such as drive shafts, exhaust system, electrics are likely to be excluded also. An independent opinion could point out issues that are not covered by the warranty so it's worth getting for that alone.
