If a guard spots a parked car with out of date tax or nct do they put a ticket on the car or do they just send out a letter

I was told by a superintendent recently they don't leave tickets anymore, it's all done via post.

It would tend to come in the post. Very few tickets presented on the spot these days.

Thought cars would be seized on the spot now if the tax/nct were out

Know of a case where a car was seized on the spot, another car owner was told to either remove car off public road or or it would be seized, both recently so yep, they can be seized, if parked in a driveway it's fine but not on a public road.

Got a ticket today for failing to display a current Car tax disc...

I only bought the car on December 2nd and had to wait for the log book to be sent back, to tax the car..

As soon a the log book came back, which was last Friday the 9th December, I taxed the car online...

I’m now waiting on the actual Disc to come back from Clare which I expect to be either Tuesday or Wednesday

Can I get the ticket quashed as I did pay for the tax or are they going to get technical and say if you haven't the correct disc you get a fine no excuses etc..?

    Cheers

What used to work for stopping them was a Sinn Fein sticker.

It will come by post. They have you address on the computer system so they know where to send it

Hi, the exact same thing happened to me a few years ago. My newly purchased car was parked on the street outside my house. A few days after, there was a little yellow Garda sticker placed on my window wiper stating that I was being fined for non-display of tax disc. About a week later I received a 60 euro fine in the post.

I sent a nicely worded letter to my local superintendant straight away explaining that I had just bought the car and expained the fact that it was parked outside my home and included a photo-copy of the current tax disc and vehicle registration cert as evidence. The gardai pretty quickly responded by letter confiming that they had cancelled the fixed penalty notice. The gardai are pretty reasonable when it comes to these things so I'd advise you to do something similar.
