Seems Planet X have eventually produced (sourced) an alloy rim 52mm and 60mm Carbon Clincher

Spotted those earlier tonight. Should be interesting to hear some reviews.

Gigantex have some really nice carbon clinchers and Planet X already use their 50mm tubular, dont know why they dont offer the gigantex clinchers too.

BLB just started selling hongfu 90mm carbon clinchers!

I guess whatever synth player owns the above abomination doesn't need to worry about brake heat. We can still hope that a nice stiff sidewind will push him into a ditch.

Planet-X's decision to go with alu rims with a carbon fairing seems sensible. Zipp and maybe Easton seem to have met the engineering challenge of making all-carbon clinchers but I don't think it's a technology that's as easy to reverse engineer as tubs. I'd certainly worry that hong-fu / gigantex etc. haven't yet gotten the whole heat dissipation thing down yet. I'm sure pX would have gone with a full carbon option if they'd felt that what they could source was good enough. Obviously they don't think the eastern offerings are good enough to put their name on yet.

Mavic and HED have shown that alu/carbon wheels do work and, while they have their downsides, they have obvious advantages too. At that pricepoint I'd err on the side of heavy, noisy and strong. Carbonnes are slightly nasty but if these are similar for half the price I could be tempted.

I'd totally put that 90mm hong-fu on the front of my tt bike though.

Actually I think the kitten saw it and headed off down to the river with a bag and a couple of rocks by itself. I've seen crashed bikes looking better than that abomination.

Don't have a personal opinion on it, but Wheelsmith.co.uk is offering gigantex carbon clinchers for a while now.
Clinchers: Full carbon clinchers have long been scary and the carbon/alloy versions too heavy. These new ones are going like hot-cakes and have been road tested up here in Scotland, over in Ireland and all over the Alps and are proving completely reliable (even with completely unskilled riders using them!). Supplied with 16g rimtapes and pads. Max pressures allowable 130psi - enough for anyone.

I don't know their volume of sales but I would suspect they are doing alright having read only positives comments about them.

thats why Im surprised planetx wont sell them

those BLB wheels look weird too because of the high spoke count. they do have a proper purpose for TT/track and are a good price but when hipserized they look like hot sick
