I've been made a present of an Ermelinda Silvesrti guitar, and I can't find any info about them on-line, It's in a bit of a sad state, and I was wondering if its worth doing anything with. All I can garner, is that it might be from the 60's. 20's or earlier. I'm thinking 60's. There's some lovely body inlay work that I've never seen the like of before. I've attached some pics. I'd love to know more about it. Thw soundhole looks like it's been butchered at one stage, maybe to fit a pickup? Not sure. As per usual, any help would be gratefully accepted:)

Here's what the label says "strumenti musicali artistici ditta ermelinda silvestri". It's the fact that the label is still there that makes me think it's a 60s' guitar

From doing a bit of research looks like a luthier from Catania Sicily. died in 1950. got the info here:

Here's one of his guitars for sale on ebay....

Not quite the same but does have another wood inlaid onto the top wood so that seems to be his style..

Anyway its an interesting piece that i'd say is worth doing a bit of work on and holding onto.

Yeah, it needs work alright, but a beautiful piece all the same. My neighbour, God bless her, pulled it out of her mothers attic. Even without the work, it would make a wonderful wall hanging. Thanks again for the info seanwhite20

Your welcome Travis. That's a great find. If you do go down the route of restoration would love to see a pic of it after :)

Being able to afford the restoration is the problem
Maybe, some kind hearted luthier might take pity on me...lol
