Photography courses

Thinking of sending my father on a beginners photography course. I done the Institute of Photography course (Digital Beginners as it was called) myself a few years ago and found Dave very good. However, I think there may be a bit too much computer work on that for the old man. I'm looking for a course that will deal 90% with the camera itself, with maybe a small bit on the software/editing/touching up side of things. I'll be giving him a loan of my Canon 400d to use during it.

Courses will have to be on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday daytime. About 8 to 10 weeks long will do.

    Thanks for any help.

Fas run a course here in Sligo ever few months and it's quite good. Went and did it myself when I got my new camera last year and got so overwhelmed with all the terms :)

Good group of people in it of all ages, was very relaxed and fun. Had to do homework every week, which just consisted of bringing in two photos comprising of what had just been shown/discussed in that weeks class.

Also did some photo walks in it which was quite entertaining.

Might be just the thing if it runs near you?!

You can get alot of good photo lessons online. Not as good as a real life class of course but they are free :)

    Some good ones are

Not so sure - I think the OP was implying he wont be comfortable with a computer. I think in this case the human touch that a course brings would probably be better. It will also allow him to meet others at the same stage as himself and they can learn together.

If in Dublin, I think the Dublin Camera Club one is highly recommended.

Peter Neill (Shoot the Sound) is doing a Christmas voucher for €99
It's a one day, one on one, for all levels that might be of interest to him.
He seems to shoot mainly gigs himself but obviously has a broad knowledge of all aspects of photography.

not really very photography based is it ?

Also for a business a wordpress made website gives an element of cheap and unprofessional.

Not when it's done properly. You can design any kind of front end for use on Wordpress.

You'd be surprised how many high end sites are actually run on Wordpress.

Wordpress is only a CMS and if you know any php/css then you can design anything you wish on it using Photoshop to design the page layout and then use php/css to code it afterwards. You can make it look as cheap/unprofessional as you like OR as modern and professional looking as you like. :)

I sent my Father In Law on a deal I got for Dublin Photography School and he highly recommended it. He's actually got really into it now and has gone on night shoots in the city centre and even to Glendalough doing things like Light Painting etc!

And surprisingly enough - the same deal is on offer today! I might take a look at one of the 7 week courses myself.
