Welfare Office's mistake - Fuming

I'm trying to claim JSB for the first time. On my first visit to my local SW office I had all the relevant documents I taught. In the house where I'm sharing with 3 others, none of the bills are in my name. I brought in a few utility bills anyway.

I was told that seen as my name wasn't on any of the bills that I needed a letter from the landlord, I brought this in 6 weeks ago and was told the inspector would be in touch with me.

I called back in today to find out what the latest is and was told my application was incomplete as I hadn't any utility bills. I explained the scenario again and had to return home to get utility bills and bring them back in.

That means my file was left sitting there for 6 weeks through their fault and no effort was made for them to contact me. Have I any options other than to have to start all over again as I am relying heavily on getting this and to be put back a further 6 weeks through no fault of my own is difficult to take.

I'm gonna meet my community welfare officer tomorrow and explain the scenario.

No offence but if you really needed it that badly it sounds odd that you left it 6 weeks without getting in touch after not hearing back?

It is completely their own negligence though, but saying that since your application wasn't even near processed I don't think much can be done.

Well to be honest with you Resi12, I heard the waiting list was 10 weeks, so I just wanted to confirm every thing was good to go. As I said I never applied before, this is my first time, I'm far form sure of the process. I had expected to be filled in by the person I was dealing with at the time.

Your claim may not have been just lying there, it just may have been in a long queue and would be attended to in due course as there is a long waiting list as you pointed out.

Bottom Line anyway as I see it, you haven't been told that your claim is missing or lost and that you will have to apply again.

So just keep pumping in any info requested as this will help get things sorted sooner rather than later.

When and if your claim is granted it will be back dated to the day they first received your application.

    Good luck....hang in there.
