Is it possible to unlock the 4S?

We are off to Thailand for 3 weeks shortly. I'm with Three on a new contract for 2 years. I would like to use a Thai SIM over there to avoid all the roaming stuff, but of course the phone is locked. Three will only unlock it I pay them €940 now, which is the balance on the contract. Im not really in a position to do this.

Just wondering if I could unlock it? I'm not very tech savvy. If it can't be done then the phone stays at home.

your better off leaving it at home tbh one less thing to worry about loosing or getting wet or stolen also not sure if your phone insurance would cover theft or loss outside the eu

My sister has her iPhone stolen in Australia. She was insured with O2 and they offered to courier her a replacement in Australia - she was going home the next day so they sent it to her Irish address instead

Personally I'd leave it at home. I'd put €100 on it being stolen within the first week in Thailand.

Ultrasn0w will most likely be updated to unlock the 4s in the next few weeks. It'll mean you have to jailbreak it once the jailbreak is released. Musclenerd of the iPhone dev team has the jailbreak and tweeted yesterday that he's nearly finished with the unlock.
