It now seems that on Aer Lingus you have to pay extra for your seat - I am trying to check in online for a flight - but first you have to reserve a seat (and pay for it) - I don't care where I sit!! Their website says they now offer this "service" on some flights

if you check in within 30 hours it allocates you seats, you can then change them without paying.
This only works within 30 hours, you may have to check in for your return leg while away.

You can just check in at the airport! They have self service machines or you can go to the desk and you can pick your seat then.

When I go to the check-in I usually just ask the clerk for a window seat or one of the emergency row exits if they are available, if the flight is not full they will accommodate you if possible, checking in early at the airport helps too.

you can checkin on your android mobile for certain airports and they scan the barcode from your phone screen too.

Have booked flights with aer lingus, flying in june. Is this still the case with regards to not HAVING to pay for your seat and can someone confirm about the checking in for the return leg while away.

    Thanks in advance.

I have flown with aer lingus 6 times since september and have never paid for a seat, I can pick my seat in Dublin and when away its always allocated to me by checkin staff, on my last flight back to Dublin I got an emergency exit seat allocated without paying an extra cent

Sorry I'm hijacking this thread, but if families have travelled together and not pre-booked their seats - did they get their seats together?

On line check in opens 30 hours before flight time (same will apply for return flight so maybe need to find an internet cafe (or download Aer lingus APP) before return home - you do not need to print boarding passes - they can do that for you at check in desk (or in the case of Dublin, collect from a machine)

If you check in on line when the booking opens you will have no issue in getting seats together. There is no need to advance book and pay for the seats.
