Just inquiring what peoples views on Alberto Del Rio is as a main eventer? I think the guy has a lot of plus sides- Atracts good heat, Good in ring and on the mic etc. I loved it when he won the royal rumble but was hoping he would have a longer reign as a world champ recently. Any views?

It all might have worked out better for Alberto if Edge hadn't gotten injured around the time of Mania, because I reckon Alberto would've beat Edge for the title and had a long reign as champion, and that could've been the spark that re-ignited some life into his act.

I like him when he wrestles, but I find his character and his promo's quite dull and repetitive.

much like everyone in WWE, they're pushed before their time; he's still a newb in WWE and he's not Brock Lesnar, he needs to settle in his character (his wrestling ability is just fine; but storytelling in a match is v lacking for a main-eventer) so i'd class him as a guy who's in the main-event, but isn't a main eventer.

His catchphrases initially got him over, but it's shocking that he actually has no substance beyond that. He needs to remedy that immediately (get a manager until he can speak, get new catchphrases or better yet better script writers) ...Ricardo is the more entertaining of the two!

Miz main events but i wouldn't class him as a main-eventer either. Same with Henry.

I'd class a main-eventer as a guy who'd be a draw/main focus for the majority for a PPV. So WWE have very few main-eventers. 3, actually.

    Del Rio is great.

He does what he does to make you dislike him. He is a top class heel. He does litlle or nothing showy so people won't cheer him.

A lot of heels end up outshining the face wrestlers as, in many cases, faces have to be a bit more restrained. Look at how Orton ended up a face or even how easy it was to turn Sheamus. They have personas and moves that can create excitment.

Del Rio in only intererested in being disliked and it helps his opponent. Not too many people are going to get excited when Del Rio hits an arm breaker and taps you out with his arm lock.

He should be but WWE have essentially done everything in their power this year to make sure he isn't.

I really like Del Rio as a preformer, reminds me a lot of Kurt Angle back in the day,his skill in ring and on the mic are great.but as a main eventer I dont think he really has it in that department.I'm finding that there is a lack of good heels at the moment and he's deffinatly fitting the bill.plus i've never seen the wwe title look so damn good around anyones weist. When he comes out with the scarf and the belt wraped around him,man he looks awesome! I cant wait to see him turn face and see what he can bring to the table

I can't stand him. I get bored when he's on TV. Don't like his matches, don't like his promo's. Completely one dimensional.

The only thing I like is his entrance music and Ricardo Rodriguez doing the announcing.

Correction: The only thing he said that I liked was when he called Rey Mysterio a little chiwawa.

I like the heelish way he fishhooks his opponents mouth lately when applying his rest holds. Plus, his finisher is treated as a match ender, nearly every time it's applied.

He does have some great lines too (illegal Canadian immigrants!) but the whole "destiny" thing has gotten very old.

I miss how he doesn't really say this anymore :(

I really, really enjoyed Del Rio around this time last year when he was on Smackdown. But ever since the move to Raw and his loss at Wrestlemania his character has collapsed (stupid Edge and his neck). Had he won the title then I think he could've had an epic run and been huge. But now his mic skills and general character seem to have just deserted him, his promos are desperately boring these days. That said I still enjoy his matches, his actual wrestling is very watchable and his finisher has been built to be genuinely threatening. I want him to be interesting again and not fade away but I don't see it at the moment.
And then you've oul Ricardo... His facial expressions are TOO good. Like when he got rejected at the "party" on Smackdown this week.

He's so boring. Honestly would have skipped his entire run if it wasn't for Ricardo.

He is a victim of WWE indecisiveness and the CM Punk elevation. The company held off on him getting the title waiting for the perfect moment and in doing so CM Punk had his break out moment. They should have kept Del Rio out of the spotlight at that point but they felt compelled to throw him into the Cena/Punk equation and in doing so they cheapened the value of not just Del Rio, but also Punk, as well as the WWE Title. The amount of title changes in 2011 has been ridiculous.

I agree with the vast, vast majority of this. But to elaborate on my previous comparison to Jeff Jarrett. He is offence (besides the armbar) is very weak and loose looking. I know that is the lucha influence but he is a shoot figher too so he should/could be more intense in the ring. You can make the case being intense is kind of uncouth for a millionaire character. That might be true and if it is he should be more of a dirty cheating c*unt with a vicious streak when his back is against the wall.

8 for the WWE title so far, 7 for WHC does seem excessive. That's less than 2 months a reign on average. (unless my math is off)

With the PPV's these days they sort of need that many title changes to keep things interesting, and keep people guessing.

Yeah and Miz had it for the first 5 months, so really that's 8 changes in 6 months. Does that Rey Mysterio reign actually count though?

Anyway yeah I would have thought that eight is too much, but maybe this is the sign of things to come in the future of the Wrestling industry as TNA also have 8 title changes this year.

Maybe it's a competition. Who can knock out more new world championship reigns in a year.

It really devalues the championship having all these short reigns. Look at the final year or so of WCW and the damage that was done to that legendary title.

Its hardly a new phenomenon, in fact its a low turnover of champions compared to the Attitude Era.

Del Rio has the potential to be an excellent main eventer. It is just that his push is very stop-start. He is suffering from being to Raw. A long term run on Smackdown with the WHC would have suited him better. If he had the push that Mark Henry has just had his image would be much better. He is not really presented as a main eventer and that devalues his achievements. It also devalues the title and the Royal Rumble. A Rumble winner should never, ever, ever open Wrestlemania.

If this were 15 years ago he would have had a good run with the Intercontinental title and have gradually turned into a main eventer.
