Treating acid reflux naturally?

    Hi!

Could you recommend some home remedies for acid reflux? I sometimes experience reflux and I think it's due to my poor dietary habits. I already tried apple cider vinegar as it was recommended on some sites but it didn't work that good.

    Thanks,

    Melinda

Just go to your doctor and get tablets and take them or u could look up what inside the tablets and buy them in a health store which could cost more then the tablets u get off the doctor I have problems with food coming up all the time waiting on a scan

you'll probably need to get diagnosed before they will confirm the required treatment which means an endoscope unfortunately. :(

no fun, but if you ask nicely (or beg, like i did!) they'll make sure you're right out before they do it.

then, assuming it's a hiatus hernia, it's likely to be a nexium (or similar) a day forever, or an operation if it's really bad, assuming you're not too overweight.

if the apple cider vinegar doesn't work for you, try eating an actual apple 3 or more hours before bed and don't eat anything or drink anything rich after that.

even with a high dose of nexium i used to wake up regularly at about 3am coughing up bile that had leaked into my lungs until i puked up the entire contents of my stomach and spent the next 2 days recovering. :(

so i changed my diet and the times i ate (always leaving at least 3-4 hours digestion time between eating and sleeping) and i haven't had a severe attack for about a year now (touch wood) and only 2 or 3 mild attacks that i was able to control without puking, and i can still eat what i want as long as i do it early enough in the evening, don't stuff myself and give it plenty of time to go down.

on the odd occasion i do feel like i might have an issue, i just set an alarm for myself and go to sleep in a sitting up position on the sofa for a couple of hours before going to bed to make sure everything is properly digested before i lay down, so i don't end up drowning in my own bile, which if you've experienced it, really is no fun.

There's one really obvious thing you could try instead of adding pointless things to your diet. You could change your diet to something healthy and give it a few weeks the acid reflux will probably have died down.

Have a read of the stickies(top of the page, fitness the basics) here and nutrition and diet

You can always post up your current diet and people here will tell you were you can improve it.

I had acid reflux for about a decade and then went Paleo and the acid reflux stopped completely at the same time.
I found it to be an interesting coincidence. Draw from it what you will.

If you think you have acid reflux, go to a doc.

If you think this reaction is because of your bad eating habits - well that's a no brainer. Asking for advice on treating it on this forum is against boards rules.
