    hello,

i currently working in a bar(i go through the books and pay tax/prsi/usc) and hours have been reduced. i now work 2 days a week. 1 weekend day. 1 midweek day. days can vary. its usually saturday and thursday. both days in hours vary from 12 to 17hours, but never exceed 20hrs..

what are my options with social welfare. i spoke to my boss and he said if i need a letter from work stating that due to business needs... hours are not available at the moment... blah blah blah...

the welfare page/citizen information website is confusing the sh*te out of me.

With them days and hours, you should be able to claim for the days not working. Once you aren't working more than 3 days a week and 20 hours you can claim for Jobseekers.
Go down to your social welfare office with the letter from your boss and some id and they should be able to set you up

The SW will put you on the casual time scheme, it's also known as the x's and o's as long as you don't work more than 3days a week!

... am sending this thread for a State Benefits answer ....

I think you need to have been working full time at one stage, and to have lost this ... could be wrong though.

Casual Jobseekers is a bit complicated. If you are entitled to JSB and do not apply when your days are first reduced you may not receive JSB as its the last 13 weeks or 26 weeks work pattern which is taken into account. This also applies to people who have recently taken up employment and may have a JSB entitlement. If your work pattern over this period is 3 days and you are still on 3 days then you will be deemed as not having any sub-loss and will be advised to apply for jobseekeekers allowance which is means tested but no level of days is applied. This is why it is so important for people who are only working 2-3 days to make a claim as soon as possible to ascertain if they have a jsb entitlement or have to apply for jsa.

On jsb Sunday is not considered a work day so someone working 4 days including Sunday will get paid for 3 days from SW but it will be taken into account when determining a "level"when it comes to re-qualification when jsb has been exhausted.. On jsa any income from Sunday work is assessed as means.

Hope this explains it some bit.

Go to your sw office and apply for jobseekers. You will be given forms for your employer to complete. Its days not hours that determine if you qualify for jobseekers.
