Running is an old habit? Time to welcome the new!

    I love encouraging people to take up running and am a leader with a local Fit4 Life group. It’s a large group and the last two years we have seen people physically transformed, develop friendships and become more confident through regular runs. Although there is a significant increase in the number of people taking up running there is also an increase in the number of Personal Fitness Studios sprouting up. I believe that being involved in a variety of sports is physically beneficial and therefore encourage members to go to classes such as kettlebell and circuit training.
    However, a recent local publication in which a local personal fitness studio described running/jogging as an OLD HABIT really got me thinking. The article titled Out with the Old and in with the New starts off by saying:
    If you don’t have the body you want, the energy you want, the confidence you want or the health you want then you need to do something different to what you are doing.
    Old Habit: Going for a Jog to lose weight
    New Habit: High Intensity Full Body Resistance Training....total body strength circuits, tabata interval training and kettlebell training.
    Maybe running is an old habit? Is this true? Is it time to welcome the new?:rolleyes:

    Not bad... strength training and running are two activities that should be part of most people life, whatever their goal is (health - performance or both). But your post will have a better future here http://www.adverts.ie/

    If you've the money to throw at those kind of classes in those places then by all means feel free I say.

    Does that mean running is defunct as a good and reliable form of exercise! Does it f**k! Cheap (barring replacing footwear) and easy and all you really require to do it is motivation. There are areas of your physique it won't impact on but it's still a great workout and accessible to all.

    Strength training should be something people throw into the mix too but I certainly don't need to go to personal fitness studio to do it. Between body weight and free weight exercises, albeit involving some stuff I had to shell out for but it's mine forever, I can use it whenever and cost relatively little, I get more than enough in the way of strength workouts. Again all you need is a little motivation!
