how would you know if the traction control feature wasn't working in your car? Would a light come on in the dashboard or not? you have an option of turning it off with a button and light comes on dashboard then but could the feature give up without notifying you with a warning light on the dashboard?

Simple when its nice and wet take off from a standstill with a heap of revs, if the wheels start spinning and nothing happens then your traction isnt working. If you start seeing some flashing lights then you know its working :)

The reason I ask is that before any time I ever hit a pool of water on the road the light would flash briefly for a few seconds and then go out but now lately I've hit pools of water on the road many a time and nothing flashes.

Might try your suggestion to make absolutely sure.

    What light would flash?
Are you sure it was traction control light?

Can't see what would it have to do with pool of water on the road, unless you were passing through them with full throttle.

On my Audi a4 the ESP light in the instrument cluster flashes once it losses traction. Yellow triangle with car with s shaped lines from the back wheels.

If I hit the ESP button the light illuminates to tell me it's off, otherwise it's active.

You hardly have new tyres or anything? You might not be losing as much traction in the water recently.

I think generally though if the traction control is not working the light will be on.

I would imagine only under braking when passing through/over water would the light come on. Can't possibly come on otherwise unless your spinning the wheels in the water.

Jack up one of the front wheels and put it in 1st and the light should come on. (As long as you dont have a lsd!)
