Did this course last year. If you're set on accountancy I would recommend it. If you're anyway unsure or think that its a pathway to a guaranteed graduate position then think long and hard.

Around a 60% pass rate. Pretty tough going for the 9 months- lots of material to cover but lecturers are good. Not everyone gets a graduate position after either, certainly not many get one in the big 4 that didn't already have a position before they started.

Fees are also a consideration- circa €7000. I know people who have essentially wasted this as they didn't get through the course i.e failed repeat exams .

If you're prepared to put in the time and effort- go for it. You also thursdays off so its not all go go go.

I completed this course. Its quite an intense year and you have to keep on top of the material from the start. I didnt really find that the material covered was too difficult, it was just a case of sheer volume. There were a few people who failed the year and lost contracts with the Big 4 as a result so if you are going to do the course, you have to be prepared to work consitently from the start. I would say about 1/3 of the class had contracts with the Big 4 before starting the course and I think most people found jobs by the end of the course.

Overall, I would really recommend the course. It gives you a very good grounding in Accounting and feel I was much better prepared for CAP 2's than many of my work collegues who had exemptions from undergraduate courses. There is also a good atmosphere in the class and I made some really good friends on the course.

    Thanks for the replies!

    Just a few more questions:

-How many hours per week for lecs/tutorials?
-How many exams in semster 1 and 2?
-And finally are there many assignments per week?

    Thanks again!

    Hi

There are two current assessments in the year - both for management accounting each at 5%. Two computer based tax exams at 10% each. In terms of current assessments there are very few- the emphasis is on covering the material with final exams being worth in region of 80%-100%.

Thursdays are off. Monday 9-6. Tues 11-6. Wed 9-4. Friday 9-

Three exams Sem 1, 5 exams Sem 2.

    Hope this helps
