Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey folks,
My laptop overheated and I had to send it back to HP last xmas. Well I dunno if they did a very good job cos its been overheating like crazy lately, I installed the program speedfan and it goes as high as 94 degrees sometimes:eek: that can't be right can it? the fan goes like crazy right from when you start it, I remember the temp used to be around 50-60 degrees but not lately and its driving me mad cos anytime I wanna run one of my CAD programs or photoshop or anything like that it goes mad and the temp just shoots up!

its a HP Pavilion dv something, its got an AMD Turion x2 64 bit and an ATI Radeon graphics card with windows 7 (upgraded from vista)

Can anyone help me, I wanna try and clean up the laptop and get rid of any background programs I don't use/need and generally get rid of any crap thats on it!

    thanks!

Reinstall of windows will clear out any crap that's running in the background.
Best and simplest method of cleaning up a system.

I don't think that will solve your problem though. I would imagine the only way to get your laptop to run cool again is cleaning up the hardware.
This would involve taking apart the laptop completely removing any dust from the fan
and probably the best thing you could do is take the heatsink off your CPU clean off any thermal paste on both CPU and heatsink then re-apply some good thermal paste.

That should drop the temps back down to something normal, assuming it isn't something bigger that's the cause of your problems.

This isn't a simple task, you would have to be very careful not to damage anything in the process.
If you still have a warranty it might be easier to just send it back again, if you don't and are not comfortable doing it yourself bring it in to a repair shop, but they will be very expensive.

Just a short video to demonstrate what would be involved.

I wouldn't recommend using this video as a guide, he does some silly things during the video but it will give you an idea if your willing to do this yourself.

Cool thanks for the help I'll have a look at that vid tomorrow, i'm guessing my laptop is out of warranty alrite, its been back to them before regarding the whle overheating thing is it possible that they put something in wrong? I found the whole experience to be **** to be honest, I cudn't backup my stuff cos the laptop kept turning itself off so I left a note under the lid not to wipe the hard drive and said it to the guy I was dealing with on the fone, they still did and I lost a load of college work, also it came back all scratched (it has one of those shiny lids) and they said it was like that when they got it. Also took about 3 attempts to collect apparently even though I was at home they said they tried to collect it, then took them ages to fix it, about twice how long they said they wud and it got stuck in terminal coming back to me, I spent over a month without my laptop and had to go into the college to try and build up everything I had again, I don't think I'll be buying HP again anytime soon...
