there is an abundance of water there today. mostly in the fairways and on the greens though. the course isn't that well drained and any shot off the fairway can prove extremely difficult to find with all the leaves from the acres of trees. its a super spot during the summer/ autumn but the temp greens are very off putting, for me anyway.

do they not bother collecting the leaves?
usually an early sign that a course is under financial pressure

    lol

have to agree, played it a few weeks ago & swampy is the word. id say youd be looking at temp greens and a carry bag for the winter.

Careful you don't trip over all the leaves lying around.

ok it does get very wet in the winter but most parkland do especially in the meath area due to the soil, temp greens as far as i know only during the week in winter to save greens for the weekend which is fai;r enaough and i carry bag all year round so no issue there.thanks for reply so far lads.

Headfort have an offer at the moment offering zero signing-on fee. Much better value than Tara and only a short distance away.

Good deal going in Headfort GC at the moment - no "hello money" if you know a member.

2 good courses (36 holes) and only 10 miles away from Tara.

whats the leaf count like in kells?

I doubt you even have to know a member. Anyone prepared to pay the €900 (or so) subs for the year would be welcomed, I'd guess.

sure tell them you are in frequent contact with damien mcgrane through twitter and other social media platforms

the pro down there is an ass so might be tricky
best to have your homework done
arrive with a print-out of recent tweets

There are plenty of trees on both courses so plenty of leaves resulting! Most have fallen at this stage (played there last Sunday).

Not sure if they have a leaf sucker - to the best of my knowledge it was a blower but I will stand corrected.

Each paid up member will get a voucher/coupon which can be passed onto a new member to waive the sign on fee. Expires next June 2012 and is probably limited to a specific number too?

This situation is becoming more serious by the day, prices being taken down by clubs, the question must be asked as to what will be the likely outcome for those clubs who have a huge and serious debt problem if they don't attract in numbers at least matching the ones that are currently leaving clubs, the GUI expect another 6.5% drop as based on ther Golfnet returns of 31st October.

meath4sam, I am a member of royal tara and would say you could do a lot worse than joining. Being November does have a lot of leaves and wet fairways but don't know what people expect. As for financial pressure all clubs are nowadays but last year the club only lost 6k due to saving being made in expenditure.

Talk to the office as think the club knows no future in joining fees so reckon you'll get a good deal and from my experience 27 is a super number of holes as you always have a 9 not being used in a competition if you want to get out at any time.

I know this is my first post so may look a bit dodge but just wanted to give a point of veiw of a member. I only joined 3 years back and only regret is the amount i paid to get in.

If your enjoying your golf in it, write off the entrance fee you paid in your mind, it was a going rate at that time and continue to enjoy yourself

Haven't played Tara for a few years but always enjoyed it. Was a member of Navan, now there's a course that is a bit of a swamp in winter.

Thinking of joining up somewhere next year too if offer is good. Headfort has two brilliant courses if the price is right and would be my first choice..but Tara is closer which i would bear in mind too.

Question, is Tara full of pensioners?

There is such a selection around Meath at the moment that, as previously stated, no one should need to know a member to get the entrance fees waived!

There is some great value around. As I mentioned on another thread even Kileen Castle was offering a fantastic price a few months ago (I think it was €1800 for 18 months).

I am a member of Co. Meath (Trim) and am very happy that I joined last year. It is a great course and is not too long but challenging at the same time. Knightsbrook is a lovely course but the pick in the county has to be Headfort.

If Royal Tara ticks all the boxes then go for it. However, if I were you I would leave it until about March and call the various local courses and get the best price for joining and either go for the best option or use the information to get the best possible deal off Royal Tara...and you probably wont need a member to assist in getting the best rate.

I wouldn't say full of pensioners but does have a few, all sound boys the ones I have played with. Still get round in the four hours handy most competition days which I reckon is always the bigger issue.
