Thinking of buying a VX220 - don't know much about these cars. Am currently doing some digging on the net.
Anyone got any advice about buying one of these second hand.

Any info would be appreciated !

    Thanks.

Most details/advice from this thread apply as they are the same car.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056464463

The opel has a btt more comfort inside and depending on maintenance, a more reliable engine then the K series in the elise.

The VX turbo will be alot faster too...

Thanks for that, funny, my first choice was a Lotus Elise but there's few of them available here. And as the OP on other thread said, importing from UK is working out way more expensive.

whats it putting out? anyone know?

edit: woah much quicker than i thought for the turbo http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/vauxhall/vx220/roadster-2000/24521/

I had an Elise - and they are wonderful. But I think the Vx220 does address some of the comfort issues with the Elise. Although the Vx220 is more powerful, it does weight 200kg more in Turbo form and loses some of the finesse.

I know I couldn't get in to an Elise anymore... too many pies! :o

    I'm guessing 33mpg is a bit optimistic?

I'd say 33mpg is dreaming if you drive the car the way it's meant to be driven.... :D

It'll be somewhere between 9mpg and 35 mpg, and trust me you won't care :D

I've 2 bits of advice for you:
    1) read this : http://octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=52683
    2) If you like what you read, then go and buy the yellow VX220. As soon as you can.

The vx220 I'm looking at is a 2002 with 88k miles on it, seems like the milage is too high to me for a car like that. Anyone think different?

It wouldn't worry me unduly to be honest. I take it it's the 2.2, Engine is GM Ecotec as used in many reps cars so mileage isn't excessive IMO . Timing chain may need to be done if not already. It would rattle to let you know. Just budget some for a suspension refresh over time. Worst case a new engine is cheap as chips. body is fibreglass and chassis aluminium so no rust issues.
They have a very good owners site in VX220.org for more info.

Yeah it's the 2.2 - I'll have a look at that site you linked - thanks for your help.

I have sat In an Elise and driven a VX220 Turbo, my old flat mate had one. In my opinion, the elise was comfier and had more finesse about the cabin in terms of design and trimmings.

I am far too tall for a car like that, but if I wasnt I would definately have the VX220 turbo. It is a rocketship of the higest order! (flatmates was modded to 260 bhp, vvr engine and turbo!)

My flatmate got over 30 that on long trips up the M1 every week. They are sooo light!

Having said all that, not a fun car to use as your daily driver on cold wet mornings!

I wouldn't buy that one anyway...what sort of clown would buy one of these and then replace 2 of the factory semi slick tyres with normal tyres!

Don't really like the shape of the MX5.
    It's either a VX220 or a Lotus Elise

Although the Elise is what I would go for, don't that if you haven't driven RWD cars before the MX5 will be easier to learn on and a lot cheaper to fix. By driven I mean driven sideways.:)
