    Hi,

Does anyone know about replacing fans on laptops?

The fan on my laptop has always been noisey and i'm wondering if I'd be able to get a new one into my laptop?

Where would do it if so? PC World?

    Thanks!:)

I doubt PC world will have it. they don't really sell laptop parts.
You may check at Maplin but you will probably pay twice more then you would pay on Ebay for item + delivery.
There are many models available so choose one for your exact laptop model number

Anyway you may not even need to buy a fan. cleaning it from the dust and lubricating the bearing may do the trick for another year.

    some hints
    - Don't blow air on it from outside to avoid dust moving to your motherboard.
You really need to take you laptop apart to get it done properly
    - try taking fan out without removing heatsink. clean the heatsing, make sure there are no dust residues on it. Clean the fan by blowing air onto it but avoid excessive air pressure as you may damage bearing further. Clean bearing itself with lightly wet cloth and apply grease (I found bicycle chain oil to by very effective) on it. Don't use WD40 it will make it worse after a month or so
    - If you have to remove heatsink you will need to clean all chips that where covered by heatsink from grey pulp, heatsink itself and apply thermal grease on them before puting heatsink back.

for the record: remove all laptop power sources before opening it(battery and power cord)

Some are easier to get to than others, google for instructional videos on youtube for your model, to check if the complexity would be within your comfort zone. You'd definitely need some small screwdrivers.

I asked the chap living next door if he could order me a new screen. When it arrived i told him i found it awkward gettin the screws out with a steak knife. You should have seen his face :D
