so in the last week or so two houses in my area have be robbed and my mates byciyle was stolen from his locked shed last night.

in the case of the 2 houses bothe houses were trashed and jewllery was taken.

regards the bike.. is it really worth there effort. they had to carry it over the back wall ... it was 6 months old and about 500euros worth...

with the increase in the cash for gold shops popping up everywhere is this spiking crime ?

its only getting worse and worse out there :(

Nope, it's just that time of the year again. And the economy? Don't get me started on the economy.

In the last recession the Government even sold the gold off the bleedin tricolour and replaced it with Dutch Orange

We have a guy who custom makes jewellery for us from time to time, and had a discussion recent ref all the cash for gold places that have spring up in recent years.

To say he was disapproving would be understatement of the year!

Encouraging scumbags to rob, and the cash for gold dealers themselves a bunch of robbing fcukers that were came from his mouth!

Desperation is spiking crime and sadly I can see this getting much worse before it gets better. Compared to some parts of Europe we're pretty safe. Go to a Spanish housing suburb and look at the 12 foot high walls and heavy gates. We've been lucky so far. Lock your doors and windows. For extra safety silicone your double glazing units in. They're too easy as standard to pop out. Set your alarm at night. Fit security lights. A floor safe is a good bet. Get a big fcuking dog. Better yet two of them. Even a little dog will make one helluva fuss. Hell a fair few cats can make for good guards(no seriously). And a couple of geese to warn the neighbourhood. I kid thee not on the geese front if you live somewhere isolated. Bloody great alarms. But I would agree with you 100% that Cash for Gold outlets are sharpening that spike. In a big way. The Guards I know are pretty sure of it and they see this shít at the pointy end.

Wait until the €uro collapses. Then sell your gold. I could see the value of gold reaching a record high during the ensuing chaos.

If it does then watch the governments of various countries crack down on the personal holding of gold. The US gov did just that in the great depression.

these shops are money laundering outfits if i have ever seen one

i was with a friend when she was getting rid of some rings she had, the guy had a look , made an offer and she accepted , cash exchanged and that was it , she only had to sign a receipt

her signature could have said micky mouse

no id needed and none checked - i could not believe it
now i would wager its the same for most of his clients

in the last 6 months in my small estate of 100 houses ten have been broken into - that is 10% a one in ten chance of being burgled

a easy way of getting rid of gold and electronics is a recipe for disaster

funny but the shop i was in is now buying phones - flat screens , cameras and the like

take 2 guesses where a percentage of that is coming from

only was to stop it is electronic recording of seller , a photo should be taken and passport produced, with a traceable link from stock on site to seller
the purchaser should by law not have more stock than he can prove he purchased legally under strict guidelines

I saw 2 cash for clothes shops recently.

There's one near Thomas St and one on the North Strand. You get cash per kilo of clothes brought in. - could be a spike in robbing off washing lines.

Actually maybe all the pyjama wearing knacks sold all their clothes??

I doubt it was anything to do with Cash For Gold. They broke into the house looking for anything of value, saw some jewellery and took it.

As for the bike being worth the effort; of course it was. They'll probably sell it for a couple of hundred euro. What other 'job' could you earn that much for five minutes work? If you ordered a bike online the man delivering it to your house certainly wouldn't earn that much money for unloading it off the back of the lorry.

Sorry to hear about your friends house being robbed. On the plus side it's better that they took jewellery and a bike rather than money. Speaking from personal experience it's easier to claim the insurance on goods like these than it is to claim insurance for having cash stolen.

Cash for Gold now accept Laptops,Consoles etc. so pretty much anything electronic along with jewellery is fair game.My folks place was robbed a while back and nothing but jewellery was taken-not too hard to guess where that ended up:rolleyes:

It seems to be pretty much a no questions asked policy there.Easy cash for anyone who lands in with a handful of jewellery or some electronic gear.

Sure this is nothing new. Back during the recession in the Middle Ages towns all over Ireland were plagued with alchemists setting up Cash for Lead shops.

Was clearing out a house recently (legally) and was looking into renting a skip for 2 or 3 wardrobes full of old clothes. Then decided to chance my luck at one of these cash for clothes places. Cha-ching - I got €38 for something that was going to cost me €200 to dump.

This old dear was in front of me with a bag of stuff and asked where the clothes go to. "Out to the third world" was the reply from the chap behind the counter. I sniggered as most of what I got rid of were crazy looking suits from decades ago. As bad as they have it in the third world, it's gonna go downhill when they all look as if they're from a 70's porn movie. Felt guilty as I drank the €38 (well initally but it got better as the night went on).
