This might sound like I'm fobbing you off but seriously, go ask an Engineer. A real one, that has Qualifications, Experience and Insurance.

With a basement if anything goes wrong then it costs a fortune to fix, remember that this is also the foundation for your house so it has to be right, a small leak or crack could result in the whole side of the building having to be dug out again just to patch it up.

Its not just the waterproofing that has to be considered, different systems work with different materials, some bitumen boards can only be fixed to the inside of shuttering for cast in-situ walls which is no good if your walls are blockwork. There are so many other things to consider its mind boggling,
Have you considered putting in a sump into the floor as a back-up?
    How high is the watertable?
    Are there springs on site?
Can you drain the area around the basement to a suitable lower level on site or will you need a sump and pump to raise it to a soak pit?
    Whats the subsoil like?
Is it a high Radon area?
Have you considered the knock-on Fire implications for a basement?

Its not scaremongering, This really is something it is well worth spending money and getting a professional involved with. Dont go with what "experts" such as neighbours and builders say, they wont have to live with it if things go wrong.
I've had arguments with supposed experienced builders on site that thought my spec for a clients basement was much too complicated and was only a waste of time and money. They told me they were going to do it to FULL Department of Agriculture spec for slatted tanks and as far as they were concerned there was nothing wrong with this!
