Passenger seat rail loose

Just noticed this last night on my Alfa 156 . The interior comes from a scrappie and the front passenger seat has two Torx bolts holding down the left seat rail. Unfortunately the rear bolt is loose and will not snug down, just keeps tightening a bit then loosening. This is causing the seat to rattle and more inmportantly it's a safety hazard in a crash. Do I have to remove the carpet to access the nut or can I go in from underneath? Any ideas are welcome.

Anyone any ideas about this? I think the washer is missing from under the bolt, does anyone know where I'd find one?

From my limited experience all of these bolts screw straight into the floor or chassis.

Tap it out if the thread is knackered.

Sounds right, someone cross threaded it or tightened the **** out of it and stripped the threads when they put in the interior from the scrappie.

I'd be probably better getting another bolt from a scrappie in that case as I haven't the foggiest how to rethread a bolt. Thanks guys.

Naw, the bolt is probably ok, the floor pan threads in that hole are goosed I'd say. Have a look at the bolt tho, just in case it is the problem...

Well in that case I'm screwed. Bolt won't come out, it's loose but can't be yanked out. Serious problem in the event of a head-on.

    What do I do?

Drill the fecker out or hack saw the head off. Once you get to see the hole you can determine its state of repair.

Not something you should ignore imo.

I needed to repair a threaded hole a few weeks ago due to a mistake by myself. It's not difficult at all.

If you can find out the thread spec then you can get the kit to tap it. Should be sold individually. Probably a plug tap. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tap_and_die

Alternatively but not as safe are rivnuts. Great kit to have anyway. Need to get me some and a puller.

    hth

(edit) actually, I have a tap and die set that I can lend you but I'm in North Kildare. Will be in Liffey Valley later this evening.

Thanks for the offer but I can't get to Liffey Valley until the weekend. I'll have a closer look at the bolt in the meantime.
