What do people think of the Renault Twingo ? Was thinking of it as a starter car for a teenager learning to drive in.

Have been offered one cheap (08, 100k kms, for 3600), but I don't know what to make of it. Mechanically same as Clio I'd expect, and the Clios were fairly reliable ?

    Comments ?

    Thanks,
    Sean.

That's why I'm interested ! Twingo is a bit, well, different, hence the request for opinions !

Bloody hell! It says NCT until December '12 so this car must have been registered in December '08 making it less than 3 years old

As nice a car as that is, that teenager is going to have a few minor bumps and scrapes in it. Grab a polo, fiesta or clio from the early 00's for around 900euro and when they get a full licence, let them keep it. They will probably poo themselves with glee, I know I would have... :P

Think of it this way, would you give your kid 3600 euro if they just wanted to buy a car?

Any idea how much they were when new ? Twingo not listed on the renault.ie website.

Depreciation is good if you are on the buying end, not the selling end !!!

Have a 00 Clio already. Twingos looking very cheap for a 3yr old car so I'd see nothing wrong with spending a bit more than the minimum amount if the deal was good. I havn't met many people with much info on the Twingo hence the question to the boardsies.

Reliability wise, I haven't heard anything bad about them also they do very well in the ADAC breakdown stats. I looked at one for my mother in 2008, she liked it but I preferred the Citroen C1.

I think the Twingo was around 11.5-12k at the time and there wasn't much of a discount being offered. It is based on the Mk2 Clio and IIRC has a driving position like some older Renaults that would suit someone with short legs and relatively long arms.

twingos are great cars. i know a person who has 1 which he has driven hard for the last 2 years. never had a problem with it at all. clios are near bullet proof. Brill cars to start off alot of space inside for a small car. easy to park cheap running and insurance aint to bad eaither

    Thanks all for comments.

Looking at UK prices, seems to be 6800 sterling new. Cheapest used one in NI is 4250 sterling (08, but lower miles). Definitely won't be going there for one !

im not saying anything to you barura but many people say on here that young people will get plenty of scrapes and bumps on their cars so its only worth getting a cheapy one. none of my friends have ever had any tips or bumper scrapes etc. i think its an over exaggerated point for the most part

My wife bought one new in April 08, has 65,000km on it and still runs great ... used every day and has never let her down ... Nice to drive as well ... Even someone like me at 6ft 3" can quite comfortably drive it ...
