    Chasing Ghosts
    Highscore (2006)
    The King of Kong

All of which were excellent, have I missed any ofter classics.

And I am not talking about the Super Mario Bros Moive :D

    Tron?

    Cloak and Dagger?

    Wargames?

Those are some 80's ones I remember.

    Not sure if D.A.R.Y.L. counts!

Aside from that, there was that one that was a glorified Nes advert.

And everyone knows that Aliens was just an excuse to build hype for the side scrolling shooter! ;)

    Ah yes. very good....

90's seemed less fertile than the 80's for game themed movies, in the 80's, especially the early 80's computers were cool, New wave music had a digital core and it pervaded popular culture.
Of course it didn't last too long and by the mid to late 80's computers were back in nerd-dom once again.

Games of movies are almost universally crap.
Movies of games are almost universally crap.

The only exception being Home Alone on the SNES. I jest I jest.

It's not a movie and nobody listens to me when I say it but game centre cx is the greatest tv series made about videogames ever with some documentary and interview sections. Loads of episodes have been translated as well and it's actively being translated, there's usually at least one a week completed.

I bloody HATE that film. It's almost as dreadful as 'I Know My First Name Is Steven'. Both a bunch of old plop you'll usually find kicking around the matinee hours on 'popular' networks like ABC Family or the Hallmark channel.

Personally I'd rather defecate in to a soup bowl and spoon feed myself lashings of my own DUMP while listening to a Mickey Bubbles Christmas CD than watch either of those films again. :pac:

Oh and here's one for the list, The Last Starfighter. :)

At least I know what the rendition team need to make you watch in order to spill about the locations of your PCB stash!

And the Last Starfighter rocks, I grew up on that stuff!
Explorers, Flight of the Navigator and The Wraith, good times!

Star Wars was turned into a pretty awesome game, the add on pack to turn it into Empire Strikes Back was cool too.

Is Explorers the movie they used an Amiga in to make some sort of space bubble or something like that? I think they used a 9v battery and then a car battery hooked up to the Amiga.

Or have I just gone mental?

I'm sure that Dark Souls is actually a game to soften us up for what comes after death, none of this heaven and cloud surfing malarkey! Oh no, we'll be slicing and dicing, and in my case dying, for all eternity, or in Retr0's case, about 58 hours, not sure what he's going to do with the rest of eternity, Johnny Ultimate neither!

Excuse me, 53 hours and because I can beat it in 53 hours, by Official Irish Playstation Magazine logic it means that any opinion of mine automatically supersedes yours.

Is it just me being crude, or does every shot that cuts back to yer womans boat give you the impression she's playing with a different kind of joystick? ;)

Not directly connected, but you can see where The Mist has heavily influenced Half Life. An 'accident' at a research facility, dimensional creatures etc...

    Good film, very dark ending.
The developers of the Half-Life video game series, which also deals with creatures from parallel dimensions breaking through to ours, have listed The Mist among their primary influences for the game plot. The first game in the series was originally going to be called Quiver, as a reference to the Arrowhead base from The Mist.

    I wouldnt agree

Scott pilgrim doesnt count, just because a film has a load of in your face game references doesnt make it a game movie....Although the whole film plays out like a quest with some boss battles, I still dont think it counts. Its a Comic-Game-Film hybrid. A film based on a comic that has a serious ammount of influence from games. So at heart its a comic film imo

But as a film I like it, theres only 1 thing that annoys me, ****ing michael cera playing the same character as all his other films. The film would be a lot better if I played Scott rather than him. Luckily Jason Schwartzman saves the day

Love love love that short story and especially the movie and THAT ending.
It was a criminally under watched on release as well.

Project Arrowhead, there is another movie right there, come on Mr King lets have a book on that please, less gunslinger more interdimensional tentacles that have a taste for human flesh thank you very much!

There is a Darius movie don't forget. Just the laserdisc is super rare and comes with a super price to match.

There's no footage of it online either which means you'd really want to buy the LD and a laserdisc player especially.

I've always wanted to collect the rarer laserdiscs that never saw a DVD or Blu Ray release or have a special LD only version. Braindead and Bad Taste and The Frighteners for example.

    Tempted, so tempted...

I always thought laser discs were just a video disc precursor to DVD, using CD technology. Never really bothered reading up on the format as to be honest, that doesn't sound very interesting.

How wrong I was! They're the same size as vinyl and need to be flipped?

Yep! Laserdiscs are awesome. Though buyers who haven't experienced a laserdisc before should be aware it's almost the same (but better quality) as a VHS or Betamax cassette.

However, there are many rare laserdisc titles of well known, and obscure movies that haven't had editions released on VHS, DVD or Blu Ray and that is what makes them super collectable (and in some cases, super expensive).

I'm scouring the markets for a good NTSC player and I think I might get the Darius laserdisc. It really is a rarity and a super collectors item.

    We'll see...

I know the vinyl discs you are on about too, Back To The Future was released in that format. To be honest though the quality is poor and the discs and players are really troublesome due to age and problems sourcing replacement parts. Nothing really to collect on it either that hasn't been released in better quality already.

    For nostalgia only! :)

Wow, now this is amazing. A Pioneer Laser Disc player which has a module slot that accepts a unit with a Megadrive cart slot, Controller ports, plays Mega CD games. There's also another module for PC Engine HuCards and CDs -

I got a selection of Jurassic Park stuff for my brother for xmas a couple of years back(he was crazy into that movie when it came out first and still is).

Amongst the items I got was a laser disc of the first movie.
I just love how laser discs feel, and they are very thick as well, not like a dvd in that sense.

There's a scene in Lost in Translation where Japanese extras play Taiko no Tatsujin and Guitar Freaks.

I note this because it remains the only realistic (non documentary) cinematic portrayal of the process of playing video games I can think of off the top of my head.

There's also numerous scenes in Die Hard 4.0 featuring Gears of War, but no-one actually looks like they're playing Gears of War in any way, shape or form.

There are not enough synonyms of the word 'wrong' to accurately describe the Resident Evil films.

Also, sort of want a LaserActive now. What a brilliantly bizarre format.

The Resident EVil films are fun, they are the best examples of competently made videogame films which don't take themselves too seriously and which entertaining to watch.
