I imagine something for the period 10-25 December and New Years Eve, but even at that it might be limited.

From the Dublinbusnews twitter page (in response to a query):
The Christmas Nitelink service will begin on December 16th.

Useless. Come Dec. 16th most of the Christmas Parties will be over. Mine start this Wednesday. I'm either going to leave early for the last DART or stay in town. Cheaper then a taxi. I wish we had a proper public transport system, especially at Christmas.

i wish we had the money for a proper public transport system...

interesting that you will get the DART home but rely on Dublin Bus to provide nightlinks

I would be confident that if Bus Atha Cliath introduced an hourly bi-directional service in both directions on the main QBC corridors at a €2.30 Flat Fare it would swiftly encourage a new ridership.

Routes such as the 4,7,13,14,15,25,27,40,41,66,145, could easily be utilized and backed up by Nitelink Express at weekends or events.

The resources are there, staffing and IR issues long ago put to bed but no real desire to develop and move forward from the two-decade old Nitelink concept......ash well..sure is'nt it alright...:o

OP, email Dublin Bus. They're quite good a responding, usually within 2 days, although the news about Nitelinks is always the same, i.e. little or no extra services.

hmm, I got the tube into London last night for a party and relied on the London night bus service to get back to the b&b, doesn't make sense to run heavy rail in the wee hours!

Got back to the b&b for the pricely sum of £1.30 at 2am btw.

A big +1 for the TfL NightBus network....fantastic integral part of London as a Capital City...mind you, they do pay rates, water charges and council tax over there too.....;)

These are regular services though. My point is that people including the post I responded too seem to expect dublin bus to put on extra services to get them home when other transport operators shut up shop.

I'm just back from London myself and used their public transport system frequently during my stay. It is financed better than our equivalent. You get what you pay for

Luas website says that only the Green Line will have late night trams in the run up to Christmas and on December 31st.

Wonder why no Red Line services?

Not being smart but, do you really need to ask? It's bad enough during the day!!!!

An interesting omission for sure and,if true,it opens a Pandoras Box in relation to the contractual obligations of the operator ?

However,it therefore seems that the RPA have finally accepted that they have lost-control of the Red Line and that the savages now dictate the level of service to be provided....

The stormtroopers on the DART seem to have no problems keeping control of the savages at night. Surely with so few night luas there could be two or three security guys and maybe even a uniformed garda on each tram.

I would presume that specific late-night services are outside of their contractual obligations and are merely put on because they feel there is a market for it on the green line and that it's more hassle than it's worth on the red?

Have used the late night Red line Luas at Christmas a few times over the last few years and have never seen a problem on it(From Red Cow-Jervis anyways, there was usually those massive robocop security guards on them too.

I think that it's a bit unfair that the green line gets a late night service and the red line does not.

There was always a Nitelink Service faciltitating the commuter belt during the Christmas season.

Having always used it for returning home from Christmas Parties, it was always close to full. It surprises me that there is little or no service this Christmas. I guess for most it will be an early finish to the festivities this year.

I heard there is a New Year's Eve Concert in College Green on the night. How will that affect the Nitelink's going out of town?

Is the 51N nitelink still in operation?

I was in town on Saturday night and the conductor/inspector said he wasn't sure, and to just get the 69N instead, unfortunately the 69N didn't follow the actual 69 route(left at Tesco in Clondalkin Village)and instead went down by The Mill Centre, which meant I had an unexpected 40 min walk home at 4am in the freezing cold.

    Very annoying!

As far as I can see there are actually only four extra days of Nitelink services this year - Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st, and Thursday 22nd. (In fact its only three extra days, since there's no Nitelink on Christmas Eve which falls on a Saturday this year).

On all the other days listed above - which are Fridays and Saturdays - Nitelink would normally be operating anyway.

Reflects the times we live in, I guess.

The one day I'll want one (22nd) has one, thankfully... I don't see how they wouldn't turn a profit for most of December even if they just ran core routes, realistically.

Between fewer people going out and the number of taxis, there isn't enough business.

There are going to be Diversions around for the Dublin NYE Festival on New Year's Day. That may include the concert in College Green. Bus services will run up to last bus until 10pm on that night.

    The arrangements are listed here.

I very much doubt there isn't enough business to run Nitelinks to outer suburbia. Some sample night taxi fares from the city centre to places served by Nitelink:
    Malahide: €29
    Balbriggan: €59
    Clonee: €28
    Leixlip: €29
    Maynooth: €44
    Celbridge: €36
    Rathcoole: €30
    Stepaside: €25
    Bray: €48

A lot more people from those areas would go out if they weren't going to get rode on the way home.

I'd disagree heavily with that. DB didn't try to run routes effectively. Rather than trimming they cut *all* midweek ones, for instance.

Taxi fares have increased, at that - although I recently had a taxi driver make an offer of off-meter (he ran the meter anyway for regulatory reasons, though) when I got in...

Absolutely correct, the provision of a comprehensive Night Bus service is a nice little earner waiting to be tapped into.

We in Dublin Bus simply held onto the NiteLink concept for far too long until it withered and died.

Our core Trunk Routes are now more than capable of operating bi-directionally on an hourly schedule at a flat-fare,made even easier now with Leap Card enabled.

I've no idea why we persist with this outdated NiteLink stand-alone concept...NiteLInk should be seen as an adjunct to the full mainline service....any takers for a €2.30 Flat after midnight fare on the main routes and a special Nitelink Express fare on the Express service (Operating as now,Limited Stop and uni-directional)

I didn't think Nitelink ever operated on Christmas Eve? An awful lot of city centre pubs close early that night anyway.

I think that was part of his point, they're not running one on the Saturday so it means there's less "added" services when you take the not-running otherwise normal day.

you can add Greystones: €60 to that list (though you can usually haggle a lower price).
