Redsnow didn't change my baseband.

Hi all. I've dabbled a bit in boards.ie but finally took the plunge and registered today. I've a little problem with unlocking an Iphone 3gs which I've inherited recently. It's locked to O2, and I'm on meteor. I've done some research and it seems if I need to unlock it, I first need to change my baseband to 06.15.00 and I went about doing this with redsnow but to no avail. My question is ... do I need to do this where the iPhone is actually capable of receiving a wifi signal (as in , maybe in a pub or hotel or something) or should this not be an issue?

The computer needs to have internet access to update the baseband.
When you ran redsn0w did it say it failed?

My laptop is connected to the web alright, with a Meteor dongle. Everything looked to be going to plan with updating the baseband, but the "flashing baseband" (whatever that means) portion only lasted a few seconds and seemingly, its supposed to take 5 or 6 mins. I didn't get any failed message or anything ... and was unpleasantly surprised to see the baseband was the same when I checked settings.

just run it again, no harm.

Already tried it twice. I'll give it another shot ... but my patience is running thin. I could be taking a trip to one of them "shops" that unlocks them pretty soon. :(

What firmware is the phone on, what version of redsn0w are you using?
if your on the latest redsnow you will need to select extras - select ipsw and choose the matching firmware for your phone

Phone is on 05.16.02. Redsnow is 0.9.6b5. But the problem is, when I open up redsnow, and click browse and then click on the redsnow folder, there's nothing in it and all i get is ... "no items match your search". I'm really not very well up on all this stuff at all and am totally winging it with any of my attempts here and my jargon.

Damn. That felixbruns site only does iPhone 3gs with 4.3 and 4.3.5 !!! I dont see 4.3.3 on there anywhere. Typical.

Thanks Cathal. But I'm afraid I'm no further on. Patience is running slightly thin at this stage. I think it's time for a trip to the "unlocking" shop.

Is your phone actually jailbreaking ok just not updating the baseband?
I'd try an older version of redsn0w like 0.9.6rc19
