I have a few questions regarding the release of an E.P.
I hope some people here can help me in my queries.

    I want to know...
    A) When releasing an EP, Does the venue pay you or vice versa??
    B) Do you sell EP's at the gig??
    c) Do you have to leave a deposit with the venue to book venue??

I ask these, and other relevant information is welcome.
I hope to release and EP in Spring 2012.
    Thanks folks...

    A) When releasing an EP, Does the venue pay you or vice versa??

Unfortunately you will be expected to cover the venue costs for sound & lighting, some might even try to charge you a fee to hire the venue. They will take all the profit at the bar and you will see none of it.

Musicians are cheap entertainment and venues figured this out a long, long time ago.

    B) Do you sell EP's at the gig??

    Absolutely.

    c) Do you have to leave a deposit with the venue to book venue??
Some will try this. Typically a figure will be agreed upfront and at the end of the night you'll give the venue some money. Make sure all details are agreed and don't assume that any person in the venue working that night is being paid for by the venue.

Some venues are better than others. Cover charge? it's a tough call because you'll be trying to get friends and family to go to the gig. Nobody is going to just turn up based on a few posters so unless you bring the audience there will not be anyone else. One way to do it is to have no cover charge but to make it clear to anyone at the gig that unless you sell your EP at the gig you will lose money. It might sound crappy but most average punters don't realise how this stuff works.

Good luck with the EP launch. Set yourself realistic expectations and organize a few other gigs after it to keep some momentum going. If you can get some local radio slots take them but you will need to do 2-3 months planning up front. Organize your promotion to friends and family upfront, if you have a mailing list get 2-3 mailings out in the 2 months coming up to the gig.

imadetheBBC has it spot on!...usally though bands sell tickets or charge at the door say around 8 or 10 euro and punters get a free copy of the ep.....at least thats the way i have seen it done a few times

with all due respect if you're heading out into the music industry being this naive you will get f*cked rightly every which way you turn...no matter how good the EP is.

Talk with someone who has been through it if you can with a view to putting a structured plan in place for this release and your music career in general

Appreciate the words Deco1983, But seeing that this is a NEW route and indeed project that i have chose to work on, and hard for that matter!

This is a boards column where it is seen as suffice to root out "relevant" information by other let's say Experienced Musicians, As you can see both "i MADEthe BBC" & "Benestoria2" have answered it all pretty well.. It's guys like that who's advice i take on board..
And Yes, I am around long enough to know that the music industry is an "eat dog" field, But one thing i swear by, and that's "If you act the fool, you'll be treated as one" is why i am working endlessly on foundations to make this project sway right, and indeed to become more knowledgeable with regards of how it actually works!
It's all about crawling before walking and all that jazz..

I also have a good group of backing/session men on board, who in early 2012, will be passing ideas across the board also.

As i stated, I appreciate the words, but like all things that i put my hand too, I keep it all positive so therefore Don't shoot me down for asking....a "Simple" Question! (Though it may have not been so simple for me)
"If you fail, try again and fail better...fail again...But at Least try"

    Regards.
