Car under 1.2 Litre recommendations?

    Hey,

Looking into getting a car, preferably under 1.2 Litre, and under €2000. I want something kinda nice looking though (not really a fan of the Fiestas or similar..).

The Fiat Stilos are something I'd definitely look into but apparently the older models of them are very troublesome so I'd probably rule them out.

    Any suggestions from you guys?

    Thanks. :)

Can't really! :D It's my first car so I'll only be a named driver until I pass my full test!

Your car + named driver = insurance no-no.

It'll be in my mam's name! :) She'll be the one buying it, not me! :P

Take into account that if this is your first car that you will probably bump the hell out of it and that anything you should buy on a 2k budget you probably won't get many years out of anyway. But for reliability I'd say Polo but just bear in mind the massive cost of repairing a VW if they go wrong

Remember that all 1.2 in fiats (punto, bravo, stilo, etc) are actually 1242cc so it's treated like 1.3 for tax and insurance reasons.

The old tax system was 1201-1300 so a lot of 1.2 cars will fall into that catagory. The difference between 1.1 and 1.2 is 24 quid so I can't imagine it'd be a deal breaker

I'd say it's more to do with the OP's insurance company possibly putting a cap on the size engine he/she is getting insured as a named driver on.

    Wouldnt think so tbh

Insurance companies are wising up to mammy or daddy taking out a policy and adding little Johnnie to it who really is the main driver. So they just add restrictions like this. Also given the OP doesn't have a full license either it is possible they have.

When I started driving, a Punto, Ibiza, Micra and funily enough a Civic were all within 100 quid of each other. A 1.2 Punto aint a heavily loaded car

EDIT, only saw the post about the restrictions there bazz, could be the case but I still doubt 1.2 would be the limit.

I had a Fiat Punto...great car, didnt have any troubles with it and the insurance was reasonable...as far as insurance goes

OP specified in his first post that he was looking preferebly for under 1.2, so I just mentioned that all those fiats were over 1.2

OP its all about how the insurance company rates the risk. I could have gotten a 1.8 renault laguna insured cheaper than my polo that I started off with. Just check around, get a list of plates of cars that you like and check it against a broker or insurance company. It's the only way!

    Here ya go :)

    Mk 1 Fiat Bravo
    Full?id=8107153

According to the ad its all yours for 950, long nct, just serviced. Its a 1.2 so plenty of smiles per gallon. Cheap to tax and insure. These cars don't fall apart either :)

I should know at this stage ;)

From all the ones above, I like the Clio (the new model!), the Peugeot and the Bravo (except for the front of it...)..

So yeah seems likely I might go for a Clio or Pegueot! If anyone has more suggestions, feel free to share! :D

The Clio is an excellent little car, much better than the likes of the frankly overrated, overpriced and underpowered Polo and more comfortable than the equivalent Yaris. It doesn't suffer the problems that plagued the Megane and Laguna either.

Probably be murdered on insurance for it though! What about a Mitsubishi Mirage/Colt? I know it's a 1.3 but they seem fairly sturdy.. opinions? :P

go get a quote , the mirage and colt would be in the same bracket as the lancer , the colt would probably be loaded more.
