    Hi folks,
I have a question in relation to student membership. Is there an age limit on it?

I have went back to college this year full time as a 31 year old mature student. I have a current handicap of 13 from clonmel as a distant member . I would love somewhere closer to be able to practice more in the evenings but I wouldn't have the funds for a full membership somewhere as I am not working and still have the bills to pay.

    Any help appreciated.

I really don't understand why you'd believe that the 350 golf clubs of Ireland would have a uniform policy on this.

Any responses you receive on this thread will be related to individual clubs and will be as relevant to your query as the price of a vasectomy for non-residents aged over 53 in Guam.

Pick up your phone, call each of the clubs in your area, ask for the general manager - and explain the situation. That way you'll actually get a real response.

Think most clubs have it around the 24/24 years of age mark.

thewobbler is spot on. I get student membership at my club but a few of the lads tried another club up the road and they had an age limit on it. My club dose have a rule that prevents students winning majors, actually a student won our captains last year and was officially placed as second. It's only a minor issue though because in general they treat students quite well. I reckon you will find a club to fit you in anyway.

Just to add that their was a thing in college last year where a mature student was refused some student benefits because of age. IIRC they reported it to the USI and they sorted it out. Their is no official age limit on being a student. I understand why clubs do it though because I have heard of people abusing the system. I would imagine if you got chatting to someone and explained the situation common sense would prevail.
