05 Audi A4 Air Con Query

    Hey,

I have a query on the air con unit in an A4 i have bought recently. It doesn't appear to function as an an air conditioner in that it doesn't blow hot or cold on demand.

Maybe a bit of a silly question but what I'm trying to figure out is if it is indeed an air conditioning unit or just a basic air circulation unit which is what it is currently functioning as. It looks like an air con unit, has the dual climate control dials, etc. Can anyone tell me if air con was an option in the 05 model A4s or standard? If i can figure this out maybe i can figure out if it is actually broken! :o:)

    Doc.

If econ is off and they're turned all the way down it should be ice cold

Take it the car as led displays and buttons for the aircon controls

Any idea if the car was in a crash?

You could check the valves on the pipes under the bonnet to see if there is any gas in the system at all.

Yeah, Leds and buttons. Seems to be no cooling or heating at all from the system. Looks like the attached (bar the heated seating controls).

    Car hasn't been crashed.

So it's not doing anything, as in the fan doesn't work?
Have you checked the pollen filter?

Well it works fine as a fan basically. Functions as an non air conditioning unit would blowing hot air once the engine has heated.

Haven't checked anything although car was serviced recently and they mentioned nothing. This has occurred to me as a bit of an after thought so I figured I'd ask the boardsies.

A service would not include a pollen filter so i would be checking that..

Could the pollen filter explain the complete non-functioning of the system or is it likely to be something else?

It could be the compressor if you have nothing...

Do you get ice cold air when you turn the dial to low..

    No.

Could be a compressor so unfortunatley. Did you get a warranty..

Compressor or the air con gas, both give problems in that range and both an easy ish fix however the may be easy none are cheap!! If I was a betting man I'd say it's the compressor not working and a seized clutch on the pulley the problem.

Yes spot on the compressors give a lot of bother in the vag range. I had one replaced on a passat and epm had one replaced on his vrs. Get it back to the garage asap as they are very costly to replace..
