I like Santini. Not too cheap/expensive and good quality

Try this, copies of the real thing but cheap enough. Posted from Hong Kong or somewhere. Bought a set this year, not bad. Good pad.

I had tenn outdoors shorts, handsdown the poorest piece of cycle clothing I have ever bought. The last two years I've bought shorts off the Quickstep website for stuff from the previous season, until we got our new excellent club gear I used to do all long distance stuff in these, vermarc is the manufacturer. Skil-shimano have also been good there and I'd say if you had the patience to go to all the pro and continental team sites you'd pick up a couple of bargains.

I thought you were a member of Killarney CC.
There is gear avilable at the Big Little Bike Shop. Prices are pretty reasonable IIRC.

I think all mountain bikers feel the same way about lycra at first Sean but once you start wearing it there's no way back - it just works better!
Personally I'm not a fan of "team" kit unless it's my own club gear and I've found DHB (Wiggles own brand) works really well while not breaking the bank!

I survived Chinese winters with Bicycle Line Winter gear. They kept me going even when temperatures hit -10C. Cycle Superstore in Tallaght stock them. I think they're Italian...er Bicycle Line, not Cycle Superstore.

    Something like these...

    Icy

Check out Prendas Cyclicisimo for some retro team kits.
They often do pretty decent prices for jerseys, shorts, accessories.

Santini make good stuff as do campag.
The Exteneodo stuff is simply great but can be pricey.

ROK ON beat me to it but Prendas http://www.prendas.co.uk can often offer great value on end of line stuff for defunct teams. I recently got a Santini jersey and bib shorts (for that well known outfit Texas Roadhouse!) for around 60 euros for the set. You have to pay extra for postage but delivery is very reliable at about 3 working days.

Their retro stuff is great and I recently got a TI-Raleigh top to replace my scratchy polyester one from the eighties, and I would love to splash out on on a full set of the Mapei gear if my Lotto numbers come up

They also throw in little extras and with a recent order I got a copy of their 2011 John Pierce calendar. Okay there were only two months left but there are some nice pics including Sean Kelly in Paris-Roubaix.

DHB gear is usable and very good value, Santini is better but more expensive. Having said that I have the Ireland Team bib shorts by Santini and the padding is no better than DHB. But my Santini Gel pad bib shorts are amazing, they did cost €92 though. I like Altura jerseys, usually in dayglow yellow!! Nalini bib shorts are OK if you get them for less than €30.

Another happy DHB customer, I have two pairs of bib shorts and a jersey from them. The first pair are 3 years old and still going strong.

I also got a pair from Endura that are bizarrely narrow at the thigh, suitable for pigeon legs only.

i ordered in these shorts from wiggle anyway, had good reviews and where dead cheap, i presume they are the same as dhb if dhb is a wiggle brand

Suggest you get some leg warmers as well Sean ...... given the time of year and all!

leg warmers? could i just get some long leg under armour to do the job? same thing from what ive seen, im broke though so il probably just have to harden the f*** up :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,795 ✭✭✭C3PO

Up to yourself but you'll find you get much colder on a road bike than the MTB! You can buy leg warmers very cheaply if you dig around!

They certainly are cheap, the HTC kit is cheaper than the jersey alone on Wiggle.

Would also like to hear if anyone on here has bought from them, it's one thing taking a chance on a jersey but a pair of uncomfortable shorts would be a complete waste if they're no good.

Why would you want to wear "knock-off" kit from a team that's defunct?

Because it's cheap? FWIW I got some Chinese knock off shorts in Hanoi for €10 and the chamois is surprisingly good quality. YMMV, I got to see before purchase. Defunct teams are technically the only ones you are "allowed" to wear anyway.

    If it's decent quality I don't care that it's knock-off.

I like the pretty colours, don't care if they're defunct, so are the Beatles, people still buy their stuff.

I stuck up about them earlier, find them good. Have a set of "Real" An Post gear and they are as good. The pad in the bib shorts are as good as the €50 Endura pair I bought on CRC. Only problem is sizing, they are small, like Italian sizes. Took about 5-7 days to arrive. Have seen the exact same gear on Ebay.co.uk even cheaper, someone is importing them to UK and selling from there.
