Troytown tomorrow but more interesting is the novice hurdle

Mount Benbulben looked an exciting bumper horse last year but jumped poorly and slipped up on his hurdles debut. Made amends in a weak contest next time out. Will need to jump better here but has all the potential in the world. Was put in at 5/2 by Powers and Ladbrokes but that's all gone

Texas Jack has looked very good so far over hurdles and unlike many novice hurdlers from this stable doesn't seem to be over hyped (yet!). His form is surely better than MB's and if I have it a bet it will be him

Rebel Fitz has done very little wrong over hurdles and actually has form with Letter Of Credit who took advantage of MB's fall first time out. Has to give weight to the other 2 mentioned and certainly not under estimated but I'd be disappointed if either of the front 2 didn't have too much class for him

Jetson is a smart enough animal but Mack A Track was slammed by Texas Jack last time out where TJ didn't come off the bridle

If anyone knows Paul Carberry please ask him which of MB or TJ he likes best!!

One to keep an eye out for market moves is the Charles Byrnes trained Shrapnel in the maiden hurdle. Was subject of a significant gamble on his debut in a bumper at Leopardstown but disappointed and was then punted again at Naas when 2nd. Had a nice introduction over hurdles which I'm sure was a scouting mission.

Might need further than 2m though

I can't agree with you on the form with these two Colonel.

Mount Benbulben is running off a lower mark but he hacked up against Lovethehigherlaw who was a very highly thought of horse before he sadly passed. Lovethehigherlaw probably wanted better ground that day but he still did hack up in a bumper at the Punchestown festival which has to be respected.

Texas Jack beat Dynamic Approach on his reappearance and he has been beaten out the gate on his two starts since. TJ was impressive last time when he won hard on the bridle against Make a Track and although he had won his 3 previous races the form doesn't seem overly solid. Reizovic got to within a length to Make a Track when beaten a month ago and he is a horse who tailed off against Mount Benbulben when they met in Limerick at February.

The form lines aren't very conclusive but at the same time I do think Mount Benbulben will turn out to be the classier sort. He is very keen but I don't think his jumping was poor as you suggested on his two previous runs. He took a few a bit novicey but nothing I would be too worried about.

Rebel Fitz probably wants better ground and is unexposed over the trip.

Bumper form means little when they start leaving the ground.

True, and I was talking about hurdles form. No prizes for saying MB was one of the best bumper horses in Ireland last yr.

Good money for Jetson. Stable has probably the best novice hurdler this year (based on what we've seen so far) so could be significant.

    Got that spectacularly wrong!

MB settled a lot better today & jumped very well. He was very weak on Betfair. Take nothing away from the 2nd horse conceding weight.

That's the way to do it Davy.

Don't agree with how bumper form means little though, if a horse has huge potential and is winning bumpers all over than there is no reason he can't translate that if he can jump a hurdle.

    Well done

I thought Rebel Fitz had given them the slip but MB knuckled down well. Looks like he'd have no problem getting further either.

The drift put me off, he did if well. Starting to pay back some of his monster price tag
