Black friday all weekend. 40% off all wedges and putters. I got myself an odyssey hot white putter and a vintage x tour 60 degree wedge for 90euro delivered. They are both used but graded as 'like new'. My only concern is getting hit for the duty.

Anyone any ideas about the duty and if i will defo get caught with it as the item arrives??

There are a couple on threads on Boards somewhere regarding calculating import duty, cant remember where off hand.

A rough guess would be between 20-30 yo yo's

Thanks. Was hoping I would get away with it. Not such a great deal with the duty on top.

You will not get hit for duty as that's around €150 onwards.
You will be hit for VAT and clearance charges too from DHL, DHL will be €14, VAT will be on your total cost, so purchase price + shipping + DHL charge @ 21% and you will have to pay this to DHL when they deliver.
So I'd estimate (€90+€14) X 21% = around €21.84 VAT and the DHL charge of €14 so your €90 will turn out to be around €126, probably still good value.

If you get stuff send from the states via USPS (postal system) you dont have to pay tax. Not in my experience anyway. Its only when send by private couriers like Fedex,DHL and UPS etc.

Think it comes with UPS. Sure I'll let you know the outcome.

That's a great shout. If I'm asked for a few bob I'll open the package in front of him and prove they are used and not in new packaging.

Whether they are used or new is irrelevant in terms of taxes/charges due I'm afraid, they will be accompanied by a copy of the invoice for customs clearance so that will be spotted well before you get your hands on the package.
You should actually have by now, I've never had to wait more than 3 working days from day of purchase.

Yeah order landed in Dublin this morning got a call from the courier today. 35 euro on top of what I have paid. Standard charge for all packages of 16 euro and the remainder the tax. Still a saving but not a significant one.

Fuk this thread, on the range last night and my driver made a funny sound and now rattles
Emailed Callaway and they emailed me back a return slip and prepaid UPS house pick-up for returning to the US free of charge, isn't that great customer service

It worked for me last but that was only for 1 club at 60 dollars, last week I bought 4 clubs at a cost of €200 including delivery, does anyone have any idea what I will be hit for so.

Standard ups charge of 16 euro for a start. Ups collect the vat for the revenue so essentially it will be in and around 45 euro on top of the 16. So youre talking 60 in afraid.

Customs & Excise too as you've over that limit which is €150, I don't know the rate for golf clubs but if it turns out to be less than €10 then you don't have to pay. Duty rates are from zero (mobile phones) to 17% so only time will tell.

Got the clubs. Putter looks brand new! Looks like its never been on a course. The wedge however is a bit worn and refurbished. New golf pride grip on it which I don't like. It will have to do.

    Got a 3 wood & 7 wood free - For father-in-law
    Got a 3H & 5H free - for the misses
Got an X-act chipper for 30 odd Euros

All the above got "like new" and indeed they were not a scuff mark, plastic still on the clubs etc

Only problem was that at this time of year i got hit for the VAT and Duty of 100 odd euros :(

Still a great deal though - the father in law looked at the 3 wood costing 180 here and got two for a 100.

I bought a putter and it was marked as very good, but when I received it I thought it was brand new, not a mark anywhere, stickers on the shaft still shiny etc.
I think they are very prudent with their ratings to ensure the customer is happy more times than disappointed

    I received mine yesterday,
    I got;
RAZR X Hybrid In 4 and 5 iron
X Series Jaws Chrome Wedge in 52°and 60 degree,

All in like new condition with plastic still on them for €260 all in including a customs charge of €60. That saved me €300 on halpenny golf prices!!

Quality service will defo used again if getting new clubs etc.

I wonder would they be willing to post via American postal service and an post to save the vat? If anyone is using them again ask and see how they get on.

Just to follow up on my driver that developed a rattle...
One email to Callaway and an apology and prepaid UPS return slip was emailed immediately.
The club was picked up from the house last Tuesday at 6PM and when I arrived home today (in other words six days later) I had a BRAND NEW driver of exact same spec and Callaway had paid for return postage AND all import duties and UPS charges.
I've had the joy and woes from internet purchases in the past but for Customer Service that has to be one of the best results I've had.:)
    10/10 to Callaway pre owned.

Just wondering, are customs and excise applicable to the goods, be they new or old, if bought within EU/Euro area? Thanks.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,470 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

No C&E/VAT on anything intra EU, if you purchase from outside the EU e.g. the states, then it makes do difference if the goods are new or second-hand, VAT is payable if the item is above €22 cost, customs if above €150 (I think)

Don't think there is DUTY payable on Golf equipment anyways. VAT yes but not DUTY
