Aerial stolen from my car

Just a heads up. My car was parked overnight in what is considered a good area. Today I discovered that the aerial was actually pulled out of the holder on the roof.

Are people really so desperate these days?

Replaced a VAG bee sting a few years back. Bought it online and when I opened it it said to replace your nicked one. :D Pretty common. Replace it with a fin.

Okay is the fin the shorter one? And the bee sting the long one? I had the long one before this.

I'm pretty annoyed though. I'm already squeezed to the limits of car expenses and other stresses without this. Pretty pathetic that there are people that do this kind of thing. I was mad enough earlier than I felt like if I'd caught them I'd have put them in a coma. ... well I wouldn't but I nearly felt like it.

Unscrewed and taken? Or ripped out and damaged the bit it screws into?
Bought two aerials recently, pretty much assuming one would be robbed.
They just caught it, snapped it off at the base (damaging the bit it screws into) and threw it on my bonnet. Possibly after raking it along some of the panels.
    That's Limerick city.

It seems to have been pulled out. All that's left in the holder on the roof are springs of hairs/thin wires. So it was ripped out of it. Can that be replaced easily?

If it was taken off just to cause damage and you're in dodgy area's an investment in an Anti Theft one could be a good idea.

Also, if they damaged the housing where the aerial sits then this would have to be repaired / replaced and can be a pain the back side to do.

The housing thing is in place. They just took the aerial out with might. So now we need security cameras for a feckking aerial? I suddenly can hate this country even more than before. Yes, it happens everywhere, but still. I was in a so-called good area. What more can one do?

Well, my first thought was to bodge a connection from the ripped wires to one of those fin type yokes. Probably solder the damaged wires directly to the connector on the fin.

Probably not the best reception, but at least it will stop water getting in through the broken antenna base and it will look better than a coat hanger hanging onto a wire. And it beats dropping the roof liner (maybe) to install a new antenna base properly.

how can it be a heads up if you dont tell people where you were parked?

Obviously I'm not going to say here where I was parked. I'm just warning people to be careful. I didn't conceive of the idea that my aerial would ever be taken, so I thought others may not have either ;)

Why is it obvious here why you would say where you were parked???

    Mind boggles!

Aerials being taken is a fact of life, unfortunately, that's why I bought 2 when I was replacing the last one that was stolen. :(
Not that the second one is any good to me now that some toe rag has done me out of something to plug it into..:mad::mad:

Pog, have used one of these before also http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/product_detail.asp?prod=915
fitted one a rear window. Not great in my experience..
