A MILLIONAIRE businessman and close associate of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern failed to pay a €1,600 bill after he hired a private box at Listowel Races last year.
Dublin developer, Jerry Beades — a senior member of Fianna Fáil's National Executive — had to be pursued by the courts for payment of the money, which dated back to last year's September meeting.
At Listowel District Court on Wednesday, solicitor for Listowel Race Company Louis Mcdonough said that Mr Beades had 'entertained the good and the great' at Listowel Races for years, but had failed to pay the €1,617.52 bill on this occasion.
At Wednesday's court sitting, Mr Mcdonough said that Mr Beades — with an address at 162 Richmond Road, Fairview — was a man of substantial means, who would have no problem paying the bill.
He told the court that the case had already been adjourned from August after the prominent Fianna Fáil activist promised the money would be paid within a week.
"This man has entertained the good and the great at Listowel Races for years, somewhat like the Galway Tent," he said. "The debt arises from the hire of a private box for Listowel Races last year. He is a man of substantial and significant means and we are asking for payment in one sum."
Mr Beades, who regularly entertained Bertie Ahern and leading members of the Fianna Fáil party at Listowel Races in the past, was ordered by Judge Mary O'halloran to pay the outstanding bill within 21 days.

Do these members of Fianna Fail have no shame?

A man of substantial means, yet he has to be hounded through the courts to pay for himself and hes buddies entertainment.

Wouldnt be surprised if they sent Gallagher down with a bag of money to pay off the debt!
