I've never won a really big prize despite playing the lotto and entering heaps of competitions over the years. And I've never personally known someone who has won a really big prize. What's the biggest prize you've won? By big I'm taking about a new car, a super luxury foreign holiday, a large cash amount etc

I won $244,000 Australian Dollars many years ago.
Equated to €100,000 Irish Punts way back in the early 90's
Was a quarter share in a state lottery over there.

Was some feeling, quite surreal at the time.

I won 4 grand on the football pools , 3 times actually over the last 5 years. This season is a pain though to predict. Probably just covers my bets of those years though :D

I won a bmx in the 80's when I bought a packet of Jersey Creams :)

I won a bike was I was about 10... But I never got it. It was a competition from HB and you got to win whatever was printed on the ice cream stick. They said they had printed too many sticks and the bikes were all gone so they sent me some shítty stickers instead.

Went to Nice with my better half and her folks and visited Monte Carlo. Decided to have a go at the one armed bandits. Looked in my wallet and I only had a twenty. Decided "ah f*ck it when will I get to do this, I'm not a gamblin' man.". Put the twenty in and pressed the button a few times (I had no idea what I was doing).

Suddenly an alarm bell goes off on it and "see staff" message pops up. I thought I broke it. Fella comes over to me and goes "You've just won 700e". Sweet.

Although that's the short story. The long version is that I didn't have my passport on me so I had to get a note from the manager, go back to Nice, get passport, train it back out and collect my winnings. Still sweet.

This gets asked often enough here.

Mine was €4622 on that phone in show that used to be on TV3 late at night. They pretty much gave away the answer and I just had to wait until the show was almost over then I tried calling in. First time I was unsuccessful, so I hung up and tried again.

They said the call would cost €1.50, ended up costing about €9...I should have made a complaint :) I never called in again, but some of my friends spent a fortune trying to get through, after I told them I won.

I played the lotto numbers from Lost and got 5 plus the bonus in the main draw. Unfortunately many other people had the same idea and it was the smallest payout ever for that many numbers.

I won a 3 pack of festive Tuborg and a book set of rock biographys at last years Santa Strike Force comedy night. Drank the Tuborg and swapped the books for a cute girls phone number. The beer went down well, the girl didn't.

It's not a lot but it meant a whole lot to me:

I won €40 on a scratchcard once. I had just bought it after buying €38 quid worth of groceries and smokes for my friend and her family on the night her Dad had died to bring up to the house.

Made me feel like maybe he was watching. Best money I ever won. :)

Remember Draw with Don on The Den?

I sent in a picture of a Barn Owl (what else would you draw like!:D) Got me a sweet Crayola art set and a couple of stickers and a signed picture of the man himself.

I still have one of those stickers too.

    Job.

I won over 2k from Ian Dempsey Happy Bank earlier in the year. Could not have come at a better time. Hanging up the phone left like taking a piano off my head.

Nothing like a recession to make ya appreciate winning a few quid :D

Ha I won the Pic of the week on Draw with Don too! Oh the thrill of it! But since then I have won a weeks holiday in New York and €2,100 on the lotto and that was all in the one year, if only every year was that great :)

    I've never.

Reminds me of a funny/dodgy story I heard this week about a lad that had worked for my gf. He's now working for a fairly big company and was running a FB competition that had car and cash prizes. Just so happened that 2 of his best friends won the big prizes, I heard it didn't go down too well :D

I'm constantly told that I'm a big winner in the game of life.

What with the dashing good looks, superior intellect, razor sharp wit, an elephantine member, modesty etc etc etc.

I won a car about 11 or 12 years ago:)
As for money the most I ever won was €800 odd on a football bet, and €2000 on the lotto but that was part of a syndicate, i got something like €250.

After years of going to the local Annual Christmas Bazaar and spending loads but winning nothing, I was going to give up but they decided to shut it down. The very last Bazaar, I won three of the lots of prizes. One was 2 crates of beer and 12 selection boxes, the next was a Turkey and a Ham and the final lot was 2 tins of roses and a life size teddy bear.

I was overjoyed and very drunk when some lady offered to buy the teddy bear off me (her son would love it she cooed). I swapped it for her 2 crates of beer (beer for the bear I drunkenly laughed) and 12 crystal glasses.

In the sober light of day I realised the Bear was worth about €300 and I being the písshead, swapped it for €40 of beer and ****ty glasses (4 of which were broke by the time I got them home).

Moral of the Story : You can drink beer but you can't fight with it..... or something like that.

I've won a dvd player / sound system and, when I was a kid, a sidewinder (weird skateboard wannabe creation). Those were probably the best things I've won, but I've picked up lots of little things over the years.

I also have the bell from the Swap Shop on Joe & Keith's Breakfast Xpress that used to be on Spin 103.8.

    Good times...

UGH, that's why i have little faith when i do competitions.

I've never won anything big. The most is 25 euro on a scratchcard which was a fortune to me as a poor student and it was right before a trip to Dublin so i was delighted :pac: Very little else :(

I've started entering a lot of competitions recently so I hope to come back to this thread with positive news one day. Positive thinking and all ;)

Won a trip to one of the matches with Tesco to the World Cup in Japan in 2002. It was only 5 days. A day travelling there. 3 days in a 5 star Hotel in Tokyo, ferried around the city and fed and watered in Restaurants and of course a ticket at the Ireland vs Saudi Arabia match. And then a day travelling home. Absolutely brilliant, still smile to this day thinking about it. When I first got the call from Tesco saying I won it I thought it was a mate winding me up :)

In 2007 I won an all expenses paid trip to South Africa including a stay in a luxury cabin in one of the Game Reserves with a Vendor through work.

I reckon I am due some good luck again so I have bought a Euro Millions ticket for the draw later on today :)

Once won 450 pounds on a fruit machine on the ferry to the uk, was fooking delighted, the mrs was too, we were gonna have an even better holiday etc..

Some bird decided to jump overboard , so the ferry had to search for her, everything was closed on the boat, so i couldnt change it to notes.

5 hours extra at sea , and one by one I put every single pound coin back in to the machine.

Took me till the train ride to London to work up the balls to tell the mrs.

If ya wanna win big ya gotsa play the zumbabwaen lottery, more zeros in those cash amounts then on our national debt.

For me, 200 quid. Twas the world cup in 06 at the local watering hole. Before the competition began 32 people entered for 20 quidi think and everyone got an envelope with a coutrys name in it so twas random but the envelopes were kept after the draw in the pub untill just before the final kicked off where everyone got theirs and opened it.
Sure didnt i get france :D Winner got 300, 2nd place 200 so I knew i had 200 quid in the bag. Good way to run a draw actually

The biggest prize I ever won was a giant teddy bear in Funderland when I was a kid. The most expensive prize was a gameboy when I was about 12 in a competition in Tesco. I also won a signed Westlife CD off a competition on the radio years and years ago, and gave it to my sister (who absolutely loves them) has a christmas present. The biggest amount of money I won was only about 50 on the lotto.

I did manage to get a free TV once but was an accident, I didn't win it. I used to work near my parents house and I'd go there during my lunch break everyday. One day, a delivery man knocks with a TV and asks me to sign for it, I did thinking my parents ordered it. It turned out, it wasn't meant for them and it had been delivered to the wrong house. No one called back to the house to collect it and there was nothing on the box to say which shop it had come from so I got to keep it. :D

I won a massive box of Nestle sweets when I was in 3rd class in a drawing competition, they lasted forever.

I won €30 on a Hampers and Roses last year.

I won a big Eeyore at Funderland over the summer, there was a young girl and her mam who were standing there for ages trying to win something and I just walked over and won first time round, so I handed it to the girl.

New car in a car draw. It was surprisingly difficult to sell. Whats the mileage? Nil, its new. How many owners? None. What colour? Whatever you want.

€7k on the English Derby in 2006.
    €9k in a poker tournament.
