Converting from oil to gas

Hi im in the proccess of buying a house and it has oil heating and we would like to convert to gas if possible.

Gas is available outside on the footpath, bord gas said it would be around 250 to get a supply up to the door.

Im wondering how hard it is to reconfigure the existing oil system to work on gas. The house is newly renovated with new rads, as far as i know the oil burner in out in the shed with the oil tank.

Now, to get to the shed from the front door (where the gas meter would go) it would have to go under the bottom of stairs, through kitchen, outside 5 metres to shed.

Instead, could we tap of the pipes coming into the kitchen from the shed, place new gas boiler in kitchen and tap a pipe for gas hob.

Sorry if this is confusing, i dont have access to the house yet and am just putting things together in my mind Thanks

All sounds reasonable, gas should be cheaper to run and well worth putting in if it's only going to cost 250 euro.
You'll also gain the space currently used by the tank and avoid the risk of having your oil stolen or contaminated with water etc.

Not too sure how the gas would be ran to the hob in a retrofit situation.

Have you got a side enterence where you can run the gas pipe along the gable wall and enter the kitchen through the wall to supply the boiler and hob , presuming you are going to relocate the boiler to the kitchen , if you leave the boiler in the shed you will have a lot of heat loss in the pipework between the shed and the house .
Also if you are replacing your boiler , make sure your installer flushes your system clear.

    No its a terraced house.

Im assuming the new rads would be ok to use ?

Would i get a boiler installed and a bit of pipe work, connect hob, system flush for less than €3000?

    Thanks for the replies

it should not be a problem at all,yes the new rads will suit gas boiler.the route for the gas pipe may be slight issue but easily overcome.I would suggest u make sure whoever does the gas runs 3/4 inch copper from the gas meter to boiler as opposed to 1/2 ".The price all depends on a number of factors, length of pipe runs, make and model of boiler,if u are altering heating system etc.I would agree with above poster about trying to pick up pipes in the house and put boiler indoors
