John Morrison is finishing up with WWE and his final date will be next Monday’s RAW Supershow.

Word going around is that TNA is very interested in bringing in Morrison and Melina as a couple. TNA is looking at making Morrison the star attraction of the X Division. There are early plans to have him feud with Austin Aries. No word yet if Morrison has spoke with TNA, directly or in-directly.

It’s said that Morrison wants out of WWE and the company wants him gone also.

If Morrison goes to TNA, he would have to use a different ring name as WWE owns the rights to the “John Morrison” name/gimmick
There were reports going around earlier this week that a top official at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas confirmed that WWE was close to signing a deal for the stadium to host WrestleMania 29. When reached for comment, a WWE spokeswoman confirmed that WWE had interest in Dallas hosting a “future” WrestleMania but said the announcement for WrestleMania 29 wouldn’t be made until early 2012.

Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels told DallasNews.com Tuesday night that Cowboys Stadium does want to host a future WrestleMania but “2013 and 2014 look like bad years for wrestling.”

Cowboys Stadium will be hosting the NCAA basketball South Regionals in 2013 and the Final Four in 2014, both of which are around the same time as WrestleMania.

Just call him John Hennigan then I spose, sounds similar enough to Morrison.

Just what TNA needs; another two ex-WWE guys who will be saddled with a "WWE Misused Me" gimmick...

The John Morrison gimmick was doing him no favours IMO so a name change might be no harm. He needed a new image. The cocky, big time Charlie heel with Melina on his arm would be my preference.

    Johnny Hendrix? :pac:

Ya this guy needs a new gimmick, the faux-70s deal is really contrived. Hopefully he can get something that's closer to himself; but TNA aren't into giving ex-fed guys new gimmicks....in any case, see you in 90 days. I'm sure a Fortune spot will be open for him by then :pac:

Does anyone really think he'll get a new image in TNA? Given TNA's history, is it not far more likely he'll debut where the exact same gear he has in WWE, with a slight variation of his current WWE theme, and have the exact same match he's had in WWE for years before winning the X Division title within two weeks of his debut? TNA don't change WWE guys when they get them; they just slot them as-is into their product for public recognition value.

Well what I think should happen and what I think will happen in TNA are pretty often radically different. The Morrison gimmick doesn't work for me, but I'm sure TNA will do their normal and have him as an even worse version of what he was in WWE.

Got to disagree look at Elijah Burke/Pope Deangelio , I think they are well capable of changing his gimmick now if they want to change his gimmick that is a different kettle of fish

I think if the person has an idea for a character, there's a good chance TNA will let them try it out, but I doubt Morrison has at all.

Cant help but think he's gotten into a lot of trouble largely due to crap by Melina, if nothing else, the WWE could have been using him as a really solid job guy for another year or two.

Will they stop selling his lunch monkeys shirt the second he's released? What do they do with leftover stock for things like that? Does the performer get to sell them from the back of his car at indie shows?

At least Melina will now get a run at a whole new roster of wrestlers ! :D

But did Burke have a gimmick at all when he was with WWE? I agree, they can change the gimmick if they want, but my guess is given the X Division TNA has, they'll stick with a Prince of Parkour type gimmick at the very least.

At a push, I'd argue Burke is the exception; look at Angle, Christian, RVD, Hogan, Kennedy, Gail Kim, Mickie James, Brian Kendrick...at most, TNA push the characters they had in WWE to an extreme but it's still the exact same character. Even with Burke, it was just a more extreme version of the "cocky heel" that Burke was playing at the end of his WWE run. Plus Burke wasn't that big a name so they were more inclinced to let him go in a different direction. Morrison is at the same rough level as Kennedy or Christian were when they left. He will still be wearing the same coats, pants and boots, have the same glasses and the same music.

I get why they do it, of course; they want people to see John Morrison and go "Hey, its the guy from WWE, I'll give this a watch". But that doesn't change the fact they tend to leave these guys as is when they come in.

As long as he gives back my lunch before he goes I don't care too much.

Really not bothered by JoMo leaving. He did nothing for me. Sure, he was a great athlete and had some good spots from time to time but I would never really look forward to seeing him on Raw or anything. I tell you one thing I will definitely not miss: those weak @ss clotheslines of his. They have to be the worst clotheslines in wrestling history!!!

I remember both members of the dire Kronik tag team had terrible clotheslines. I expect Morrison to turn up with his tacky glasses and cheap pimp wooly jacket. Hopefully he doesn't go through the same spots again and again like the washed up Rvd does.

Is he still with Melina? I thought I read somewhere she had dumped him

His real name is John Randall Hennigan what about Johnny Randy very porn starish :p

so glad i'll never have to see that twat on WWE TV again. He was just awful in every way. His gimmick was lacking any substance at all, his theme song was terrible, he had some good little spots here and there but that was it.

Haha, and people thought Miz would struggle. I'm genuinely more optimistic about watching Raw/Smackdown because he can never be the letdown of a surprise partner ever again.

I gotta jump in and say that Elijah Burke was calling himself "The Black Pope" and doing the gimmick whilst on the indie scenes in between WWE and TNA. How much TNA changed it/his wardrobe i don't know.

But you're definitely right in saying that it depends if TNA will change his gimmick. tbh they should do the best of both worlds; have him come in as the "WWE John Morrison"; to snag these imaginary fans that will jump ship to see JoMo in TNA, and then evolve him into a new, better-suited gimmick.

I like JoMo, I'd welcome him. The number of standout matches he's had in the last three years more than justifies a roster spot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

In general it seems to be if the wrestler comes up with something new, TNA may be willing to change, but they wont do it themselfs.

I think it's a mistake to let him pirouette out of the company. Was capable of taking Jeff Hardy's place, in my view. Course he can now do that as Johnny Impact or whatever.

Thought it was a mistake to get rid of Burke too. He was good once They dropped Terkay the Manbearpig.

He was just about to break through in '09 after his string of awesome matches with Hardy, Edge, Bourne, Jericho, Punk and Mysterio but they shoved him back down into the midcard after Rey was suspended. Even look at his performances this year at Extreme Rules, Elimination Chamber and Royal Rumble (and his match against Drew a few weeks ago on Superstars) - the man was one of the most talented guys on their roster and popular aswell.

He was never one of my favourites and promo wise, he is very poor. I have to say though, one of the best matches I saw live was Morrison and Matt Hardy at one of the house shows in Dublin. It was really entertaining and they put on a really good match.

Yeah, completely agree with this. Criminally underused in his time. It's a pity that his relationship with Melina pretty much got in the way of him.

This guy was so over around Rumble time. I think aside from his relationship woes, his mic skills held him back considerably. I'm not sure they would have ever got behind him in a big way in WWE because of that.

What's Joey Mercury up to these days? A reformed MNM with a new name could have some excellent tag matches in TNA.

Think he's training people in fcw, not entirely sure of that. Morrison went a bit overboard with the parkour stuff but what really ended his push was when Melina got all bitchy about Trish coming back at Mania and he behaved like a child about it.

Thats the last thing i'd give Trish. It really killed his career after all that good work Sheamus did with him this time last year.

At Mania with the Snookie match (Morrison, Trish and Snookie vs McCool, Ziggler? and Vickie, can't quite remember the heel team), Melina believed she should have had the spot on the team rather than Trish Stratus. Morrison, in a "show of support", pretty much ignored Trish during the entire match and completly blanked her in the post match celebrations.

Was the story not that Melina felt it should have been anyone but Trish and her being there took away someone else's spot? Hard to argue really, the rest of the Diva's do be there each and every week. Trish shows up and they nearly all get ignored and have zero chance of a wrestlemania match.

Think wwe wanted a steady hand who was over to work most of the short match with Laycool. Its not as if wwe's womens division is bursting at the seems with talented wrestlers as they proved in that dire 8 or 10 diva tag team car wreck that was at the previous years mania.

no apparantly melina was saying Trish took HER spot! which makes no sence as she was a heel at the time [what am i saying - as if that makes a difference in the divas division]

Match quality is not enough though. He became a spot guy. His title matches at the start of the year were spot after spot. Then he got injured and when he returned nobody gave a ****. The only excitement about Morrison was how will he top the last spot he did.

The comparison to Jeff is a good one. Jeff got over massively, JoMo never did. The differance was Jeff Hardy played a persona that was believable and genuine, people knew he was a bit mad and they warmed to him, jeff Hardy was a real person, the enigma line summed him up perfectly. Morrison just has a cheesy false persona and sticking with it has cost him any chance of connecting with the wwe crowd enough to really make people care about John Morrison. Morrisons spots were more over than he was himself!

The other thing is Jeffs spots came across as putting everything on the line to win making people care, while Morrisons came across as just another moment of agility during a match making people wait for the next one.

I really liked Morrison this time last year and thought if he changed his character could have easily rocketed this year.
Sad to see how he didnt. When he was Fresh he was really exciting to watch.

    Spot Monkey to be Kofi

To Blame for his WWE exit: everyone tbh

dont know the ins and outs but if the WWE really wanted Morrison a push post melina leaving could have lead to contract renewal, but tbh Melina messed things up for him big time. However none of this would have mattered if Morrison had a personality or a voice.

TNA? I'm fairly sure he will go straight there and get pushed. He will probably also get Melina in the door with him and debut as essentially his WWE self but in TNA. The X Division will be his home to start and he will put on some decent matches. He will then flirt with moving to main event and may even crack it but again until he shows an interesting personality on screen or on the mic he wont break the glass ceiling and wont rise above his WWE history. His lack of a personality leads to a lack of connectivity with him which can make you view his matches cynically and they become just uneccesary spot fests parkour style, they lack reality.

I read a rumour on one of the sites that he is finished with wrestling for the time being and wants to explore other avenues, specifically acting. Now he hasn't exactly wowed us with any theatrical flair to date so I can't see that taking off, unless he wants to become a stuntman.
