Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an open jam session happening anywhere in Dublin?

First tues of every month the blues club in JJs does an open jam night, blues based obviously. Used to anyway, should be on the JJ Smyths website.

Yes, they used to. AFAIK, it stopped last September.

every wednesday there is a good session. Guitars, drums and piano provided. Plently of mics so not too difficult to mic up a instrument.

It's your average get together with jam instead of lube.

Like an open mic night, except with a band where anyone can play. It generally is restricted to blues and jazz. In the case of blues, it tends to follow the same twelve bar blues cycle over and over, so all you need to know is the key. Jazz, or course, is far more complex, but still, experienced players can jam along, once the key is known.

So where talking a high level of musicianship then?

Well, if you are well versed in the Minor Pentatonic scale then you should be grand. 12 Bar Blues is like painting by numbers, really.
