What colour suit is it ok to wear a pair of tan/light brown shoes with? Also should you always wear a belt with a suit?

Brown shoes and brown belt look good with a navy suit. I think you should always wear a belt, it pulls the look together and makes sure your trousers are where they're supposed to be! You see young guys wearing suit trousers where they wear their jeans, not a good look.

I think the only way to do a suit without a belt would be if it's really casual, slim fit, no tie and open shirt. If you're going dressed up, go all the way.

There are some suit trousers that have tab closures instead of belt loops, and even braces can be used to good effect with suits, but yeah the main thing is that they need to sit where they're meant to, whatever way you manage it!

You need to make sure that the belt for your suit is right for a suit- it'll probably be a different belt from the one you'd wear with your jeans.

If the shoes are light brown or tan then generally a light grey or tan suit would be best. Make sure belt matches the shoes too.

If they're a darker shade of brown then a navy suit should work well with them.

If they're genuinely tan then anything from a mid-grey to light grey suit will be great, beige too if your colouring can pull it off. Definitely a summer look. Avoid anything like navy or charcoal. And for the love of God not black *shudders*.

It's not essential to wear a belt with a suit - one can have braces or tabs as previously mentioned. However, if one goes sans belt the trousers MUST fit correctly or it will look quite sloppy indeed.
