Any Similar Experiences?

A friend of mine is working for a multinational in Ireland.

He has been looking to move department and recently applied for for two open jobs in other departments. First job was a 12 month contract after which he would revert back to current role, second job was a permanent move to a new department, more money than job 1, better prospects etc.

He got offered first job - 12 month contract- and accepted.
Further to this he got offered Job 2 - Permanent - and accepted. Told job 1 that he could no longer accept the offer as he was now taking Job 2. Job 1 understood as Job 2 was the better job.

Now Job 2 have revoked their offer after it was accepted as they have found and interviewed another person who they feel better qualified to do the job. So my friend is stuck in Limbo as to what to do next. He already told Job 1 he was going to Job 2. Now Job 2 have decided they don't want him after offering him the job in writing and it being accepted in writing.

Has anyone had any similar experiences, or have any opinion as to whether he should get legal advice? Does he have any claim against them in relation to Job 2 now that they have revoked offer after acceptance?

This is a simplistic view of events but accurate enough to garner opinion so if you have one please chip in thanks!

If he has accepted it in writing he will have a very strong position, if they refuse to give him the position they have broken a contract so he can take a case against them with nearly a case iron case of winning. He could play clever on this if he 'works' with the company to resolve this. He should insist the contract is honoured or if not he should at the very least insist the new renumeration is given, and see if they can offer a suitable(to your friend) alternative position. They seem to have made a mess of this based on the information you have given

Nobody here can say that for certain, please don't give this sort of legal advice here.
