Hi, the thermostat seems to be broken and I'd like to replace it with a digital programmable one. Can anyone recommend one and secondly are they easy to install or do I need to get a sparks in?

    thx

I cannot recommend a model. But I have replace two of these digital programmable controllers. Both Siemens units + quite expensive. Unless your planning on being away from home for an extend period a standard manual segment timer is the best. Only advantage to the that unit was the immersion could be controlled aswell.

If I hear "do I need a sparks" Then in my experience the answer is yes. Assuming your only going to be controlling your boiler and not the immersion? You could replace timer like for like. They are cheaper and more reliable in my opinion.

    I got one of these:

Honeywell CMT927 (CM927) Wireless Programmable Room Thermostat

about 95 Stg. It's wireless and you can bring it around the house. Great set of features. It has replaced my timeswitch.

[edit] per above post, the CM927 is more complicated to use than a traditional timeswitch. As a rough guide, if you can program an over timer you should be fine. Download the instruction booklet before you buy if you want to see how it works.

I've had a chance to take a close look at this and it looks like the clock is busted (see pictures). The unit came with the house when I bought it 5 years ago and seems to be reasonably old. I doubt there is a opportunity to just buy a replacement clock.

In answer to one of the posts, this thermostat just does the rads.

    Thx
